Yes, a vinyl top. Remember those? My wife recently acquired a 65 Mustang with it's original white vinyl (not convertible) top . What would be the best Meguiar's (Consumer) product(s) to clean and protect this old top?

This obviously isn't a daily driver, but I want to take care of this 45 year old "Original".

Thanks in advance for any help.

Assuming it is in good shape, some #40 would be a solid choice, it is a mild cleaner and protectant.

I agree. You can not go wrong with #40. Very good product.

Would ultimate protectant work? I used to have a cougar with a vinyl top.

M40 is a great product but there is a possible downside to using it in this application: it is a water based product and therefore could experience some run off down the side of the vehicle when washed or exposed to rain. A thoroughly cleaning followed by an application of Ultimate Protectant might be a better fit overall.

Since this car is not a daily driver then top probably won't ever really get "dirty", nor will the rest of the car, so it should be easy to wash the body without soaking the top - meaning M40 is definitely a very good option here. But for anyone reading this who might have a daily driver with a vinyl top, just be aware that virtually any sprayable water based dressing is going to have the potential to wash off and streak down the side of the vehicle when it gets wet.

I think the apply, let sit, and wipe off excess technique would be a good idea, rain or not.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll try the UP after cleaning.
