    Difference between liquid wax and paste wax

    I was just curious, there are a few products Meguiar's sells in both liquid and paste form, like NXT 2.0 tech protectant, Gold Class with Carnauba, M26.

    I can see there will be a difference in how they go on, but other than that, are the final results any different?

    Not really. Just to cover different preferences but nothing that one offers that you won't get in the other presentation.

    If you have any kind of machine then just always going with the liquid version would be best for those moment you want it machine applied.

      The only reason I prefer paste version is that I like to apply my LSP's by hand. Same product though.

        Back in the day there used to be differences between the liquid and paste versions of some waxes - not just Meguiar's, but anyone who made both versions of the same product. That was basically an issue of technology. Many years ago there just wasn't a user friendly, effective way to pack all the "active ingredients" in a liquid form and obtain similar results to the paste version.

        As with all things these days, however, technology marches on. Liquid waxes (and we're talking specifically Meguiar's now) are identical to their paste counterparts in everything except form. Personal preference now dictates which one a user chooses.

          ^ Agreed.

          I would think if I prefer to apply my wax via a Cheapo "Wax Spreader" for speed get the Liquid. Like said though most prefer by hand.

          I am using Paste wax NXT 2.0 and love it. I plan on trying out the Liquid when the can runs out and then see if I feel it being better for speed.

            I think Tim has mentioned the pastes drying a bit better in damp conditions, which could affect some people.

              Before NXT was available I used to use Meg's cleaner wax. My dad had the paste first and when he ran out he got the liquid. I honestly never really noticed any difference in the longevity/performance. I just pick up whatever is available. Only difference is in the application.

              Any chance we could petition Meg's to bring back M16 in a form suited for the DA? :-)

                I think the reason M16 was discontinued in the US was because of VOC regulations. Even if you put the same product in a liquid form, you still have the VOC issue. M21 2.0 seems to be a longevity winner at the moment...maybe we will be getting a couple new products mid-year 2010.

                  VOC regulations are constantly changing and we have to adapt to them. In some cases a change in regs leaves us with no choice but to discontinue an item. Fortunately this is very rare, but in the case of M16 we could not adhere to the new regs and still deliver the same product. Obviously we couldn't make massive change to the formula, one that would render the product perhaps just a shadow of itself, and still try to sell it as the same product. That wouldn't be fair to you guys, nor would we be staying true to ourselves.

                      One is in paste form and one is in liquid haha

                      I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.
                      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                      Remove swirls my friends.

                        I was led to believe that paste wax sets up a little bit harder than liquid, thus provides a bit more longevity.

                          I will say one thing, it is easier to use less product with a paste wax. With the liquid it sometimes comes out of the bottle with more than I intended (I need to get those little dispenser bottles I think to help control that).

                            The small, round foam applicators prolong product whether paste or liquid.

                              I'm surprised that no one mentioned that most of the time a paste is natural and a liquid is synthetic..
