  • Pure Polish then Colox. Will it work?

I am interested in seeing if this will work in theory and then giving it a try next week. I would post pics on this thread afterwards to document the results.

My mom's car has very tired looking paint and has only been waxed once in its life (2003 Black Honda Civic). I dont want to spend a weekend on it so I want to use Colorx as my main cleaner. However, I was wondering what would happen if I were to wash, clay, pure polish and then Colorx. Would the Colox clean the polishing oils out of the paint and then replace them with its own? I want to know if I would be wasting product or not. Thanks in advance!

BTW, I am doing it by hand.

    Yeah, probably a waste.

I think you would clean the paint first with ColorX and then apply the polish.

I never thought about doing it that way. I wonder if the polishing oils will seep through the layer of wax Colox left behind.

Mmmm.. wouldnt really do that either.

If I was going to do multiple steps, I would just get out the SwirlX and Wax, maybe a pure polish in between.

For the average Joe, a cleaner/wax by itself is great.

For us more obsessed folk, a cleaner/wax + a wax makes a quick detail, and coves all the steps.

But if you are going to get fancy, and be doing 3 or 4 steps, you may as well do a proper detail with a better cleaner, a better polish, and 2 coats of a better wax.

When I first started seriously detailing many moons ago, the guy who was teaching me believed that the ultimate two-step process was two applications of A-12 followed by one application of #16. I'll admit that it worked very well on most cars.

Today that process would be two applications of Color-X followed by NXT or #21.

Wash, clay, Color X then Nxt2.0. The results have been fabulous on my dark red Saturn. Touchups with UQD keep weekly and UQW every couple months keeps this daily driver looking fine.
