I'm having trouble with NXT 2.0, specifically with the removal process and it's results. Now granted, it's been cold here in NC with temps just today reaching into the high 50's and dry but I've countered that with a heated building that I'm working in. With that said I'm having a bear of a time with this stuff drying sufficiently for removal without leaving what I'll call an easily smearable surface. Better description would be if I go to wipe the surface with a MF it looks like there's an oily film on the hood. I spoke with a tech rep at Meguiars Thursday and we both agreed on the temperature being the main cause but I'm beginning to think otherwise. I put a first coat on the entire car yesterday (all previous work was limited to the hood) and everything went well with applying to the entire car and allowing and extra 30-45 minutes drying time even with the building temp at 65 degrees. It was dark when I finished so I called it a day. I go to pull the car out into the sun today to inspect and all seems well until I went to wipe away a spot of residue missed and the same (but somewhat reduced) smearing as mentioned before happened on just the hood, the rest of the car was fine. The only variable I came up with was that the rest of the car had a coat of Mothers Glaze (step 2 Cali Gold) and the hood's had been removed due to removing some fine scratches. I then used DC1 to remove the wax on the hood and proceeded to apply the 2nd coat to the rest of the car and start the hood over including the addition of the Mothers step 2. As the car sits right now I have 1/2 the hood still coated due to it not passing the swipe test but the rest of the car is golden. Never had this type of resistance with any other product, including the original NXT before. The results are great but this level of hassle is ridiculous. I'm looking at leaving it overnight and wiping the rest off tomorrow morning in the hopes it will be cured. Anyone have any thoughts/insight as to why this is happening?

And the last coat of Nxt was easy to remove?
DC1
Mothers
Found fine scratches and dealt with them using Ultimate Compound which removed the Mothers
Applied NXT 2.0 first time
Removed NXT 2.0 and reapplied Mothers
Reapplied NXT 2.0
Thickness of application was considered but in the opinion of a couple of buddies that took a look at it and we could all see a good reflection through the wax I figured it was not too thick. Am I wrong in this?
And yes, it was easy to remove though I believe my towels were loading up so I switched to fresh ones.

Re: Problems with NXT 2.0
Well, success finally after letting it sit overnight. I removed what I'd left on the passenger side of the hood and it came off without issue and the entire car looks great. Now I just have to apply the secong coat and hopefully not go through all this hassle again. I plan to let the car sit until later next week before I apply the next coat to the hood. I'm also amazed at the reduction to all out concealment of fine scratches and swirls. I've never seen this level of results with Mothers in the past. I'll try and have some pictures posted sometime today.

Re: Problems with NXT 2.0
I'd guess that you either apply too thick layer of NXT or the surface is not completely clean when you apply it, hence the problems. I've been using NXT 2.0 from the very moment it came out and never had any streaking/smearing issues.

As others have mentioned, temperature and humidity will play a role in how long it takes a wax to dry. A low temp coupled with high humidity has the potential to really prolong that drying time. Having said that, it is a bit odd that only one panel was giving you this issue. It could be that you had not previously removed all of the Ultimate Compound from your previous steps because your description of being able to "see a good reflection through the wax" sure sounds like you applied it nice and thin.
Looking at the process logically, since the hood was the only panel with the issue, and it was also the only panel that was worked on with UC immediately prior to the NXT application, that's how we arrive at this theory.Michael Stoops

Re: Problems with NXT 2.0
The hood was not the only panel to be worked with UC, just the only one that gave me trouble. That thought had crossed my mind after the second attempt at 2.0 (after speaking with the tech rep on the phone) so I wiped the hood down with a mild degreaser to ensure a clean surface but the 2.0 still took it's sweet time to dry. Either way, whether it was my application or the temp and humidity or all the above it's looking great and I'll be laying down a very thin second coat on the hood this weekend. Oh look, calling for scattered showers......
