  • Help - used QuikOut carpet cleaner, now smells like spoiled milk

    Hey all,
I did an interior detail on my Camry and used Quik Out to treat some spots on the carpet and mats. I get into the car today and there is a strong odor of spoiled milk. There has not been anything spilled in the car. Any ideas?

Perhaps you had some odors trapped in the carpet and Quik Out brought them to the surface? Try spraying some Meguiar's Odor Eliminator on the affected areas and see if that clears it up.

Perhaps just leave the windows open a bit....

Sometimes the products do leave a bit of a smell, maybe you didnt fully remove the Quick Out.

I have never experienced this... hmmm.

Is it possible the carpets were just too damp/wet and the vehicle needs to air out? Like Murr suggested, open the windows and let it air out.

It is possible that the Quik Out is reacting with something in those carpet stains. Since the PH of Quik Out is neutral, the chances are slim. I just think the carpets need to air out a little longer and maybe were just damp.

Our new scented (temporary) Odor Eliminator is amazing and works really well eliminating the odor at the molecular level.

Let the vehicle air out over night. See if that clears it up. The next step for me would go to the odor eliminator if that did not do the trick.

When you said nothing had been spilled I am not sure if you meant "RECENTLY".

Anyway, this post talks about removing the "source of stain " before wetting it. Maybe it applies to odors? [Once I dropped powdered milk in my car and didn't smell it for months, until I tracked rain onto the carpet.]

"I Have found it is better to remove the stains prior to
any shampooing or wetting the area. when a liquid stains
material it rises to the surface as it dries so when you
wet it you push it back down and it looks good until it dries
              and walla it's back...."

I, too, have never heard of that happening. I use QuikOut a lot and have never had a problem. After cleaning, did you crack the windows or doors to allow for some airflow, or did you leave the car sealed tight?

I detail this vehicle on a regular basis, and also drive it on a regular basis, so I know for a fact that nothing has been spilled that could cause this odor. I am going to air the vehicle out and pinpoint the source of the smell, and probably get some odor remover to go along with it. Thanks all for the help.

Not sure if the product can go bad or not, but I've never had it smell on me? I love Quick out and use it on pet stains around the house which is why it stays under the sink.

I had a vehicle once that did have milk spilled in it. About a half gallon in August. It got in the spare tire well and into the back of the seat which was carpeted. Yes this was my own vehicle, don't ask, it still gets me fired up. Anyway, I was putting Arm and Hammer in a big tray to absorb the odor which worked pretty well. Of course I needed to clean the area and use an odor eliminator, but the smell still lingered.
