Natural Shine ???

Hi Gang

I own a Miata and was wondering of this would be to shiny for my top or is there something else in the consumer line better suited for this. Should i be using Natural shine on the outside of my car ?

1. Well.. up to you I guess. I think it is pretty low gloss, but some still like it lower. It is the lowest gloss product that will still leave a good amount of protection behind. Quick Interior Detailer will be even lower gloss, but leaves less protection/moisturizing.

2. No, it will not stand up to the elements as well as an exterior detailing product.

Don't be put off by it's description as a Marine/Boating product. It will still work well on your Miata's canvas top. ADS also sells Meguiar's Canvas Cleaner which I think would also be safe for automotive use, but I'd wait for one of the Meguiars Mikes chime in on that.

At any rate, you are asking about a product for vinyl/plastic.

Is your cloth fabric?

I think those canvas products may be discontinued, so may want to snatch them up.

#40 is lower gloss than Natural Shine and has some cleaning ability as well.

Anyway, for exterior vinyl, plastic, etc, All Season Dressing would be the most durable option, but will be quite shiny. The new Ultimate Protectant is also a glossy but durable option.

#38 can be used for exteriors, and will last pretty well, and as mentioned, lower gloss.

#38 and ASD can be bought in bulk, which you may like for an entire top, plus other plastic.

Whichever way you go, I would clean the surface, apply, then let sit for 5min or so. Then come back and wipe off excess with a clean cloth.

Virtually any water based dressing is going to have issues with longevity when used on an exterior surface, especially when exposed to rain. For a vinyl convertible top we would recommend giving it a good cleaning first with a medium bristle brush and either your car wash shampoo & water or even M39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner. After it's fully dry, apply either All Season Dressing or our new Ultimate Protectant. ASD is only available by the gallon and is probably going to be an internet order for you, but UP can be picked up at WalMart and most large auto parts stores. UP won't be quite as glossy as ASD either, plus the polymers in it will allow it to fully cure and bond to the surface so it won't feel greasy or oily and it won't just run off in the rain.

Apply UP sparingly with either a foam wax applicator pad or a microfiber applicator and just walk away. Once it dries, it's totally dry to the touch.

I would personally look into either the RaggTopp products or the 303 products. Both make a cleaner that can be used on either fabric or vinyl tops and both make protectants expressly formulated for fabric and vinyl tops, respectively. I use RaggTopp myself but intend to try out the 303 protectant this spring.

I used Natural Shine (sometimes) on my tires. I use a foam applicator to apply it, then wait for about 15 minutes to penetrate. After that, I wipe-off any excess to prevent slings, and to give me a satin gloss on my tires.
