NXT Wax on Emergency Helicopter

Had a slow 24 hour shift at work yesterday so the pilot and myself decided to work on one of the 3 helios we have. We washed with NXT, Clayed, 2 coats of NXT! This has NEVER looked this good since they day we got them!!

You dont want to be lifted in that, unless its just a ride!

My patients are critical. I dont get the ones that call for a ambulance because they took 2 motrins and 5 minutes later headache is not going away! Most of the time, mine are out of it! Every treatment/decision is carefully calculated! No time for errors. Even the ones I get when mom decided to do drugs her whole entire term and baby arrives 2 months early at 1lb., not breathing. Complete life support on the neonate for a 1hr transport, reviving the baby 6-8 times in less then 20 minutes. Intubating, IVs, monitoring. Its a rough job, but rewarding for some!

I understand what you mean about being rewarding. In matter of fact, today while at lunch with some friends, an older couple recognized me as they were leaving. I had the gentleman as a patient one evening a few months ago and the wife came to me and gave me a hug. Both thank me for what I did and it made me feel pretty good about what I am going for. Currently I am in my sr. year in nursing school going for my RN. Things like that make me realize what I'm doing and encourages me to do my best to accomplish my goal.

Depending on weather we usually fly 120-150mph

You made me think on my day off! Here are a few things on the helios for our business.

There are 4 full time mechanics with one on call 24 hours/day.
There are 9 helicopter pilots.
Each flight staff has their own voice activated helmet.
There are 6 fixed-wing aircraft pilots.
Survival Flight travels all over the country by ground, rotor-wing and fixed-wing to pick up and delilver patients to care facilities.
A Bell 430 helicopter weights 6800 pounds with no fuel in it.
A gallon of JET A fuel weights 6.8 pounds.
Survival flight uses 146,449 gallons of fuel in the average year.
The helicopter travels at 135 knots or 150 mph.
The big blades spin 364 rotations per minute.
The smaller rotor blades in the rear spin at 1884 times per minute and are almost invisible when spinning.
Fully loaded with JET A fuel the air craft weights an extra 1600 pounds.
The helicopter will hold 263 gallons of fuel.
90 gallons of fuel are burned every hour.
In an average flight, 600 pounds of fuel is burned off.
A flight suit has 11 zippers.
Survival flight has flown 3,270,640 miles over the past 20 years.

In Southern California I see those helicopters all the time. They make a certain sound like a high performance engine. The regular Police Department Helicopter's are not as powerfull. But the Air Ambulances are pretty fast and sound powerfull. Thank you for providing these services in times of great stress and need.

Sikorsky S-76 aircraft


Here's a pic of the ones they use near me. Everythime I see one flying, I know that someone is severely messed up. My supervisor's mother in law was airlifted and the 'medics on board literally saved her life when they administered heart attack stopping drugs in flight.

I witnessed one close up on the highway airlifting an accident victim. You don't realize just how big those Sikorsys are until you're up close, and there's NO mistaking those babies, they've got some of the heaviest thumping sounds of anything else I've heard.

I remember when to qualify to be a pilot, you had to be ex-military WITH flight experience in combat.

You guys have my respect, I always tell the rookies: "Be nice to the medics, they will be the ones to take care of your butt when you get it stomped."

After claying and NXT you might be saving a few pounds of fuel per hour due to the slicker surface.
