  • Gasoline on NXT

When I put in gas yesterday, I was not paying attention and I spilled some gas on my car.

I applied 2 coats of NXT 2 weeks ago to prepare for the winter. Did the gas do anything to NXT? Should I apply some NXT locally near the gas door?

IMO....I would make sure the gas was cleaned off first. Wash the car, clay the area that the gas was spilled on, and then rewax the localized area. I just wouldn't want to have gasoline underneath a coat of wax that could eat at the paint. Gas is a very good cleaning solvent, and will probably eat at your finish.

    Just a thought.

Should wash then rewax... from time to time you will see some car with nasty stains by the gas door. Just wouldn't take any chances.

If the gasoline has a high alcohol content, or uses methanol (as as opposed to ethanol) it could stain the paint. Most of the spilled gas will evaoporate quickly. Remove any residue with a QD and reapply NXT. Like the others have said, gasoline is a good solvent and probably removed at least some of the NXT.

          Hey,

I have to agree with the others. I would wash the area as soon as possible. Then I would re-NXT.

I'm going to have to echo the earlier responses as well.

Gasoline is a combination of petroleum and several types of solvents including xylene, ethylbenzene, toluene, and benzene (and several others). Needless to say, these are pretty serious chemicals that can and will remove wax/sealants etc...

            Wash immediately and re-NXT X 2.

Probably it was not that bad. It was raining at the time and I also rinsed it with bottled water.

I will wash again this weekend and reply the NXT
