Well it looks like I’m a little late to the show with my review of “Lab Sample P” as Tim, Nick, and Jesse have already put together some top notch reviews for our beloved MOL members.

Per the sheet Meguiar’s sent with the sample, it was listed as an Interior/Exterior Vinyl, rubber, and plastic protectant.
Smell – The first thing I did was pop the top and see what kind of scent Meguiar’s had come up with now. While I prefer the nice fruity scents found in the Water Based dressing and Hyper Dressing, I also like the more toned down smell of the Ultimate Quick Interior Detailer. I’d say the smell of Sample P is more of a chemical smell than fruity. It actually reminds me of a hand lotion in a dispenser at my local gym, which is very mild and not over powering in any way. I’d say it’s somewhat similar to M40 but much more mellow…I like it.
Consistency – Sample P is much thicker than the dressings I’m used to using, which is purely preference. Of the products I have and use often, I’d say it’s a lot like Hyper Dressing in its undiluted form. Pouring a small amount onto a foam applicator also reminded me a little of M205 in its consistency.
Ease of application- I tried applying Sample P with both foam applicators and micro fiber. While I like using dressings that can be sprayed onto an applicator, Sample P spread surprisingly very well, especially with the foam applicator.
Appearance/feel – On all four of the surfaces I applied Sample P to, it had a very nice matte appearance. I compared Sample P to M40 on interior surfaces and Hyper Dressing on exterior rubber.
I had a few cars at my disposal but unfortunately none of them had any plastic exterior trim.
The first test subject was my fiancées Acura RL
I first cleaned the door panel with APC
Sample P is on the left and M40 on the right with the untreated area in the center. As you can see Sample P has a very matte appearance with only a slight darkening effect. M40 appears glossier with a darker look. You can also see the difference each has on the different types of vinyl.

Next was to try it out on some tires. I first cleaned the tire with some APC+ and allowed it to dry.
Next I placed a small strip of tape down the center and applied Sample P on the left and then Hyper Dressing on the right cut 3:1
This was about 10 minutes after application. Hyper dressing had a slightly glossier look to it and was also a little wet to the touch.
Since I always wipe my tires back down with a dry towel to avoid sling and also tone down the wet look, you can see they are very similar after a wipe down…though Sample P needed no wipe down, it was dry to the touch minutes after applying.
I then pulled in my roommates 350Z and cleaned the door panel with some APC. The material on these panels is weird and even after just cleaning with APC it had a blotchy look to it…not sure why???
Again Sample P is on the left and M40 on the right with Sample P having a more matte and natural appearance than M40.
Finally I pulled in my other roommates ’93 Ford Probe in hopes of showing the restorative powers of Sample P….unfortunately the panels were not as bad as I thought they would be, but you can still see how well Sample P works.
Again I cleaned the door panel with some APC.
This time I applied Sample P to the whole panel for a before and after effect.
In summary, I find Sample P to be a very easy to use dressing with a pleasant smell. It leaves a nice matte finish which is dry to the touch and does not require you to wipe it back down with a dry towel like some other dressings. I can definitely see me using this as my go to dressing for exterior trim.
