  • Applied Swirl-X by hand, now have holograms. Please help

    Hello,
I've always used Meguiars products on my vehicles, but mainly stuck to wash/wax/detail sprays. I started noticing some swirl marks in my new black truck and decided to give swirl-x a try. I figured if I apply it by hand, I can do no damage. I was wrong. Now I have those hologram marks all over my truck when it's in direct sunlight. Can anyone give me some advice as to how to remove these? Preferably by hand as I do not have a DA polisher. Plus, I'd probably just end up doing more harm to the paint. Thanks in advance!!

    Any chance of pics?

What kind of truck is it? How did you apply it?

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow if it's sunny. It's overcast right now. It's an 08 Toyota Tundra.

I decided to give my truck some love one day by washing it, clay bar treatment, Swirl X, followed by some wax. I applied it as the directions stated. Small areas at a time, then buffed it out. I guess maybe I allowed the swirl x to dry a little too much while applying?? I didn't notice the swirls until a couple weeks later, I guess that's when the wax started to wear off. the reason I even gave swirl-x a shot is because on another forum, someone told me to go for it, that there was NO WAY i could do any damage to the paint if I applied by hand. So I didn't even consider the fact that I could be causing holograms in the paint. My fault.

If you let the swirlx dry....then that is probably the cause. It is meant to be worked and removed while it is wet.
        Black......the ONLY color!

That's what I"m thinking it was. Had to be. Any ideas on how to reverse it? That wont require this ?

BlackTruck, though it may be too late to bring this up now, one should ALWAYS do a Test Spot before applying any polish or compound to one's car.

Did you wipe off the SwirlX immediately? It should be applied section by section with a foam applictor and then removed with a clean, high quality microfiber towel. It should never be allowed to dry on the surface.

You might try washing your car again, and then doing a test spot with SwirlX in the area of the problem holograms and see if it removes them. Report back to the forum with your results.
Swirls hide in the black molecular depths, only waiting for the right time to emerge and destroy your sanity.

I'll give that a go tomorrow. Thanks. Wax covers it up for a bit, but it eventually comes back. It's not at as bad as other black vehicles I see out and about, not even close, but it still bugs me.

Letting it dry shouldnt particularly cause holograms, unless you really had to grind the towel into the paint to remove the product.

Be sure to apply gently with a smooth foam pad at first, and see what happens.
