Me and my father in-law bought new GM trucks, both are black and he had the dealer put some perma seal or something on his, he gets this put on all his new vehicles that he swears by and i didn't get it put on mine. What can i do myself when i pick up my truck, to have something as good as what he got?I'm new to waxing, never have done much of it..thanks a lot

    Re: new truck

Just between you and us... if your father paid for this treatment he paid way too much. Sorry, I think the stuff that sell at the dealership is just marked up everyday sealant. Nothing to write home about.

I'd recommend putting NXT 2.0 on your truck. This is a good sealant. Reapply every 3-4 months. You can also top this with a coat of carnuba wax to add depth to the shine. Apply the NXT, remove, wait 24 hours and then apply the carnuba wax.

If you want durability, find some Collinte wax (476 is good) or the Megs #16 on ebay right now. These are hard carnuba waxes that will last through the winter.

These are just some recommendations. You really should take a moment and read some posts, then determine what you want to use.

Read some of the sticky posts in the Detailing 101 forum for more information.

Here is a video I made after applying Megs #16:

Thank you very much tscope 1. I have been reading about the NXT 2.0 and think i will try that. A lot of people really seem to like it. So,, for a deep shine I'm adding a Carnuba wax 24 hours after i put the NXT on. Do i wash in between this proceedure? I'll try and find that Megs #16 thanks again

You don't need to wash if the truck is still clean. I usually park it in the garage in the evening, apply the NXT and then the next morning apply the wax. Granted, this a little over 12 hours but I think that is long enough (it's very dry here in Utah). If you are going to be driving the truck in between I'd recommend you wash it in between.

There is a thread on Meg $16 being sold on ebay. The price has gone up to around $15 but even at that price it's a steal. A tin should last years.

Keep in mind that this is just the short of it. I'd recommend reading posts in this forum as there really is some good information from many people here (all more knowledgeable then me).

First of, Welcome to MOL :]...

I have to agree with tcope... whenever it comes to some sort of "paint protection" that will last a year or forever that is offered by a dealer, it is usually just marketing gimmick, so that the customer will feel happier to buy the car, because no matter what type of clear coat, I dont think any types of clear coat will be safe from the daily driven environment the car is exposed to on a long term.

          I would recommend you to:
          1. wash your car with a quality shampoo Gold Class / NXT Shampoo
          2. clay your car so that all the bonded contaminants are wiped off from the surface
          3. clean the clear coat with a mild cleaners such as SwirlX / Ultimate Compound for removing swirls and/or deeper defects.
          4. put two coats of Wax(your choice) to give your car a deep and rich shine and reflection that will make you feel proud and happy of the protection you made :]...
