  • What's missing from this picture????

So, what would Meguiars recommend people buy here to clean the paint??

Sorry, dropping DC1 is a bad idea and very confusing to consumers. How many people are going to buy polish / wax thinking that is all they need to do?

Or they will buy cleaner wax, followed by polish then......who knows.

If ScratchX or Ultimate Compound were on the shelf here, most people would not think to grab that as a step before polish.

I dont mind SwirlX replacing DC1.... But a little more continuity in labels/style might be good.

      I agree 100%

Hell, just put ScratchX in some DC1 bottles

But if you notice with the new labeling, it doesn't say step 1, 2 and 3 on the respective bottles. So while some people might know they need to clean they're paint most people don't

I think it was a good move on Meguiar's part, the new paint cleaners are light years ahead of what DC1 was.

          IMO that is the problem.

12+ yeas ago when I "discovered" the three step system I had no clue there was more than wax and rubbing compound. It was because of the simple 1-2-3 step bottles I started actually cleaning my paint.

Your local auto store has a LOT OF MEGS! I see what your saying, but with the fourm and the hotline, its pretty user friendly for how much range you have with Megs products. Imo.

Exactly. It is the 1-2-3 that is important. Even if you moved clay or wash to 1, or whatever.

It is obvious to us 25,000 members, but Meguiars wants (and needs) more customers than that.

I see what your saying...very true.

Then again it is kind of wierd that the store in the picture has so many consumer products but no Scratch-X 2.0, Swirl-X or Ultimate Compound. Seems that if one or more of those products were on the shelf people might read them and see that those are the type of products that remove scratches and swirls, not a polish.

I would bet the stores only ordered those products cause they said 1-2-3. The stores/chains pick what products to carry out of the full catalog.

Auto Parts Store? I took this picture at Fleet Farm!!! Not kidding, the next aisle over is horse saddles.

There is an old saying in Green Bay: "If Fleet Farm does not have it, you don't need it" - it's scary how many people actually live and die by this.

IMO the name "swirlX" is too misleading.

If I had to guess (and I do) Meguiars is going after the new trend in car polishes eliminating scratches and swirls. Hit the key phrase to grab that consumer market.
Problem is they may be losing on the other end with people who will see ScratchX and move on since they are looking for a cleaner.

Without this forum I never would have looked at ScratchX and thought it was to be used on the entire car, just areas with scratches / swirls.

But you can use Scratch-X 2.0 on the entire car, you can use it by hand or DA.

The original Scratch-X you couldn't but now you can. So I think you can look at it either way. People know what scratch's are, they'll probably pick up that Scratch-X means getting rid of scratch's.

                      And how is Swirl-X misleading?

Re: What's missing from this picture????

It is an advertising and perception thing.

People who used DC1 and cant find it will be frustrated and confused. (many people dont think they have swirls/scratches) And nothing looks like it replaces it, as far as bottles/labels.

Many people think swirls, scratches, etc are something you get removed once in the cars life, if ever. It is something speacial. So you lost the "general" cleaner, and didnt relabel anything as the general cleaner.

I dunno... I'd be worried. If it was me, I'd want to make the general cleaner better, not hide it.

Maybe the bottles look old fashioned, but that means the bottles need redone, not splitting everything up.

I'm looking at this from the point of view of the average consumer (me not that long ago). Looking through my box of waxes from years past, I have some swirl remover and scratch remover.......I never once thought about using either of these on the entire car. If I had to fix a scratch I grabbed the scratch stuff.
I did know to grab DC1 before I applied DC2.

IMO the DC1-3 system set Meguiars apart from the rest, an easy, simple way to push people past the step of simply waxing their car.

99% of the people shopping at this store have no idea what a DA is.

I'm the same.I learned a lot from the DC 1,2,3. It just changed the whole appearance of the car by the important cleaning step. If a normal consumer tries the kit out for the first time, they will more than likely be astounded by the difference after step 1 alone.Claying has the same effect,to the eye.
If SwirlX or ScratchX 2.0 are considered the replacement for step 1,that's fine.I think it would be a good idea for the consumer to know this though. They probably don't know that it can be used on an entire vehicle.

same here, I was hooked on the DC 1-2-3 steps... it made me clear of the clean, polish, wax steps...
I think that SwirlX and Ultimate Compound should have something written on the bottles like Step 1A and Step 1B... so that consumers and the autostores wont be confused...
