i just bought a car and on the bottom of the door there are black spots in the paint, i am assuming it is from the tire kicking up stuff, i have used the clay bar to try to remove them but it did nothing, when i rub my finger across the spots it is smooth, any suggestions on how to remove them?

    Re: Help

Go onto the paint cleaning step. I would try SwirlX first.

        Re: Help

It sounds like a stain, but could be chemical etching. If it is a real problem to get rid of, PM and we will talk as you are local.

            Re: Help

No, the SwirlX is a paint cleaner. It is a bit stronger, so it can remove swirls. But You might need the extra strength.

                Re: Help

Did you call either Advance Auto or Walmart? I believe that both chains carry SwirlX and Ultimate Compound.

                    Re: Help

Do you mean more than 1 application of SwirlX, ScratchX, etc? Yeas, you can certainly apply a couple times if needed.

                      Re: Help

Just wanted to throw this out there, but have you considered trying WD-40 on the black spots?

It may not work, but it wouldn't hurt to try, and it won't hurt your paint either.

                        Re: Help

WD-40 was recently recommended to me for black tar spots by a very knowledgeable detailer. I haven't tried it yet.

With a pure polish such as Deep Crystal Step 2, a second coat would not make that much of a noticeable difference to justify doing it again.

Sure it might make the paint darker and richer but it would be very hard to notice it.
