  • ScratchX 2.0 a replacement for ScratchX?

    Hey guys,

I did a search on how ScratchX 2.0 differs from Scratch X. What I gathered is that ScratchX 2.0 is more aggressive compared its predecessor. I also looked at some pictures comparing the results produced from the two products. Needless to say the results were very similar, and the pictures probably couldn't do them justice.

What I have been wondering is this. Since ScratchX 2.0 quite a bit more aggressive and more gritty than ScratchX Classic, could it be used in leiu of the old product? I have always used the old ScratchX to remove light swirls and fine scratches. With ScratchX 2.0 being more aggressive, could it do the same in removing light swirls? I have not tried ScratchX 2.0 yet, but I look forward to giving it a try in the very near future.

    Thanks.

Yeah, an order of aggressiveness would look like:

    1. ScratchX
    2. SwirlX
    3. ScratchX 2.0
    4. Ultimate Compound

But while it is more agressive, it will also work more quickly, and you can apply the product more gently if needed.

I didn't know that the old scratchX was milder than swirlX

        Oh, yes...
Much milder. It is probably the best product, in my opinion, to elminate fine swirls. Even extremely fine swirls that cannot be removed by SwirlX with a very light pad.

The original ScratchX used a diminishing abrasive not unlike that found in M80, M83, etc. ScratchX 2.0 makes use of SMAT technology and is more akin to M105 - although not nearly as aggressive. Use the new 2.0 version for the exact same reasons and in the exact same manner that you did the original - just expect quicker results and/or expect to remove even more severe defects.

Don't confuse "more aggressive" with "more gritty" - you can't feel the abrasives in either version, but they are there.

Does the Ultimate Compound leave the same type of finish as the Scratch X 2.0 because its the same price but you get twice as much.

Generally speaking, a milder product has a higher chance of leaving a perfect finish behind.

But the UC will leave a pretty darn good finish behind on most paints.
