  • NXT Wash w/ QEW-like technique...crazy?

There are two things I can think of that separate QEW from the rest...good lubrication and residue-free drying. I don't really see why a person couldn't use a product that lubricates well [NXT, right?] and just use it like you would QEW.

I'd like to hear what flaws of this method would be, or if anyone gets to try it before me, let me know how it works!

I have never used QEW but I sure read a lot of positive reviews for about it.

I should order some and give it a test drive. Anyone have the link handy?

Also, it seems like people get it from http://www.campingworld.com/, but you might be able to find it locally. Walmart around here has the Protectall QD, and I haven't looked at RV places.

I tried it out with a different car wash [less lubricity, but I wanted to use it up ], and it seems like it worked.

          but...

how can I tell if it worked or didn't? I guess I didn't see any streaks, and I didn't notice any new swirls...

The part I used it on is clean, so I guess I was successful.

Sounds like it worked to me. Did you notice any drying residue? QEW is so great because it dosent produce any soap suds that have to be rinsed off. Every other shampoo I have used has created some suds. Just my $.02.
Swirls? I don't see no stinkin' swirls!

              Hi, thanks for contributing!

No, I didn't notice any residue after drying. Then again, the paint on this beater wasn't that great, and I didn't look particularly hard. I still think I would have seen streaks if there were any.

I'm not seeing the connection between suds and not being used as a QEW-type substitute. I appreciate the observation, I just don't get it. :p

I'm guessing that you could use any soap and not get suds: don't spray the water into the bucket. That forces air into the water, which creates the suds. If you let the water flow in like a stream, it would probably be more suds-less.

I'll really have to try this method on my more prestine car to see if I can see any problems or make any other observations.

If you mix NXT wash the same way you do QEW(fill a bucket with water first, then add wash, and mix in with your mitt) it produces relatively little suds and has very good lubricity. I haven't tried using it like QEW though, as I haven't had much success with QEW anyways(and I tried, went through about 3/5 of a 16 oz bottle).

Yes, I have the product, but have not tried it yet. Perhaps this weekend.

I couldn't find locally. Its on order for next week. Looking forward to your write up Mike. Scottwax speaks very highly of this product.

I tried QEW today for the first time. My black truck was just a little dusty. No grime, etc. I thought that it would be a safe time to test the product. It was very easy too use. (Again, the truck was just dusty.) However, it left a film that I had to use a QD to get off. I applied the product with a cotton chenille wash mitt and removed it with two microfiber towels. I mixed the solution exactly as directed. I used soft water. Perhaps I should cut back the mix.

I purchased the QEW to use as a "rinse" after using a coin op carwash. That will be my next test.

Hmmm... Thanks for the info. Just one quick question.

How damp was your wash mit? I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the film left behind. I really don't mind QD after the QEW. I though about doing that anyway.

Thanks again. I will give it a try next week too.

I think this post kind of went off topic. Oh well its an oldy anyway.

The mitt was wet, but not dripping. QDing is OK with me too if that's what it takes.

Now I wonder how NXT shampoo would work using it like QEW?

I laughed when I saw this post come back to the top! I'm glad someone found it to be useful! I didn't experiment any further, but I'd still be interested to hear how using NXT wash works as a substitute for QEW. If I recall correctly, QEW was somewhat expensive, and if the NXT wash that is available locally and for less $ than QEW functioned pretty much the same, it seems like there wouldn't be any losers (Except for ProtectAll Inc.)!
