  • My first detail

Well I finally got around to using the Meguiars' goodies I ordered about a month ago. This is my first detail on my 2 month old Volvo S40. Since this was my first detail, and the first time using my PC, I went with the 5 step method using the Deep Crystal product line. Figured I'd stick with the basics before I start experimenting with the other products like the NXT. The car looks and feels better than the day I drove it off the lot. My pics could be better, but i think you can see the results.

I was so anxious to get started I forgot to take before pics.

i've got one question though. When I used the cleaner and polish, it left a thin smoth layer of the product that was easily removed. When I applied the wax, ussing the 9006 pad, the wax layer left by the pad, seemed to be very thin. It was almost as if there wasn't any product there, but there was. Should I have used more product so that the layer would have been thicker, or is this how the wax goes on?
All in all, I'm very happy with the results. I need to re-clay a few areas where I didn't do to good of a job. And next time I think I need to work the product in a little more. I think I was going over the work area a little too fast.
I love the results, but now I don't want to take the car out of the garage.

Nice work. Clay always gives the surface the extra smoothness over just polishing which I love. Sounds to me like you applied the wax properly, you could always apply another coat for even coverage.

With wax, many thin coats are more effective than trying to put on a "thick" coat.

      Nice job! Looks very nice!

                Hey

Great job!! I particularly love the gloss on that color! I too bet the wheels are tough to detail!

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah the wheels take a while to clean. They're painted wheels, so I'm thinking i can wax them as well? Might help make them easier to keep clean. It's been so long since I've waxed a car, but using the PC was so nice. I think I'm addicted. My next patient is my mom's Toyota Corrola. It's got lots of swirl mark, so the results should be more impressive. Can the ScratchX product be applied using the PC as well, or is that more of a hand applied product? Thanks.

                    Hey,

Meguiar's ScratchX should be applied by hand only. If you have a PC and there is a fair amount of swirl marks, you may want to use Meguiar's #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish or #80 Speed Glaze.

As for the wheels, rather than using wax, I prefer using a polymer, like Meguiar's #20 Polymer Sealant. Just IMHO!
