  • DeepChrystal cleaner discontinued?

I have noticed that DC1 is going to be discontinued...

What is the follower of DC1 (or similar)? No three DC-steps anymore?

And is the DC3 mostly same as #26 (Hi-Tech Yellow Wax)?

    Re: DeepChrystal cleaner discontinued?

Well, now with the introduction of the new paint cleaners like Ultimate Compound, Swirl X, Scratch X 2.0, there really isn't a need for DC1 anymore. Also, it is less aggressive than the new paint cleaners, so it is not quite as effective. To answer your other question, I have not used DC3 or M26, so I couldn't say which is better, but they do both contain carnauba. See this thread:

      Re: DeepChrystal cleaner discontinued?

I have tried neither DC3 nor M26, but given everything I have read here on MOL I think I can safely say that M26 is the superior wax.

I have not heard anything official yet about the discontinuation of DC1 (did I miss the announcement?), but I wouldn't be surprised. None of our local stores here in Roanoke carry the product. I purchased a bottle of it on sale for $2 a few months ago and recently used it on my wife's car. I will be sorry to see DC1 discontinued, as there are times when one wants a non-abrasive pre-wax cleaner. Other companies offer pre-wax cleaners, but they typically cost two to three times more than DC1. But a company can't continue to make a product when nobody is buying it. Sigh.

I am not sure if it has been discontinued yet, but I know it is highly possible.

SwirlX would become the mild cleaner.

DC#3 is kind of entry level, I would consider Gold Class and #26 a step up from it.

          Re: DeepChrystal cleaner discontinued?

Deep Crystal Step 1 Paint Cleaner is being phased out and essentially replaced by SwirlX, with ScratchX 2.0 and Ultimate Compound being more aggressive alternatives.

At the same time, the labels on Deep Crystal Polish and Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax have been updated and no longer reflect Step 2 and Step 3, respectively.

We could call 'em DCP and DCCW for Deep Crystal Polish and Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax. Just a thought.

Good call on the names, Ciera (DCP & DCCW).
I can see why DC1 is being phased out for the aforementioned reasons, but also because I've come across many threads and situations where people were debating when or where to use DC1 in their regimens, and often it seemed to be left out of the mix because it was so gentle and the results it produced were probably negligible because other Meg's products simply produced much more measurable results over it .

I'm still not sure when or where I'll use my DC1, haha . I'd love to use it, but you know...
...Hey I guess the same deal sort of applies to #7 and DC2 now that I think of it! Something to think about.

                  Re: DeepChrystal cleaner discontinued?

I think DC1 is a nice product. I used it on my parents' 1990 Honda Accord recently. You can view the pics here. It may not be much use for removing swirls and scratches, but it is nice to have a gentle paint cleaner once in a while. I did see DC1 in an O'Reilly auto parts store recently, but I'm not sure if they're still carrying it or not. Oh well. That's just the way it goes, I guess.

I do like the look of that Nissan GT-R on the front of the new bottles, though.

                    Re: DeepChrystal cleaner discontinued?

I think the SwirlX will fit with the Average Joe's habits. If the car seems clean, they wont work it in much, and it will be mild.

And then if it needs more cleaning, they work it in more.

And it seems the new SMAT products work well that way, as opposed to needing broken down like the old products.

                      Re: DeepChrystal cleaner discontinued?

So I have to use SwirlX instead of DC1 if I want same mild formula, which has been in DC1?

How about others who are using DC2 (pure polish)? I don´t see almost nothing difference compared to surface after DC1...

Should start another thread, but anyway:

...And the color is metallic silver with clearcoat/laquer, and it feels like I don´t get any better results no matter what I´m doing! Or am I doing something wrong?

                      Please help me getting better method! ;

So, after applying DC1 there is some light swirls remaining.. paint is clean and smooth, but it doesn´t look glossy enough... but not bad.. Clearcoat is, by the way, very hard in this case!

Well, now I have to find simplier method.. I´m thinking something like that:

                      1. Wash
                      2. Clay (if needed)
                      3. (THE problem area!) Some cleaner/polish/other like CW, ColorX, SwirlX, ScratchX 1 or 2.0, UltimateCompound or something else to remove swirls and clean paint????
                      4. LSP 2x: I have DC3, NXT and GC!!!

                      Maintainig:
                      5. GoldClass/NXT shampoo + Ultimate Quick Detailer

Doing full job about 2-3 times within year.

                        Re: DeepChrystal cleaner discontinued?

Some colors just dont show as much difference as others, and newer paints wont show as much difference as old paints.

So a new silver car is tough to get drastic results with.

You'll want to use SwirlX on the bad spots, just work it in with more passion where the swirls are worst.

The only way to significantly increase gloss is to level the paint surface as much as possible through the application of an abrasive polish.

What it means to remove a scratch out of anything...

If DC1 is not removing your swirls, then you need to move up to a more aggressive polish, e.g., SwirlX or Ultimate Compound.

Are you working by hand? You may wish to consider purchasing a dual action polisher. It will make your polishing infinitely easier and more effective.

Your process looks great. You just need to find an abrasive polish that will effect sufficient paint correction on your car.

Where does ColorX fall in the aggressive scale? Or should it not be considered as it's a Cleaner/Wax?

ColorX is a medium strngth cleaner/wax. Seems to get a bit more grime off my car than the regular cleaner/wax, and looks nice.

By hand, I would not consider it for real swirl removal. By machine, it is more of a possibility.

It would tend to be milder than SwirlX.
