  • Swirl X + G-100

    Hey guys,

Just curious how effective people have been using Swirl-X with a G-100, G-110 when it comes to removing pretty moderate swirls?

Anyway, I have a black 2002 Lincoln LSE that I'm going to attempt to detail tomorrow, which has some pretty moderate swirls. Anyway, I was wondering if it's worth giving it a shot using my G-100 and a W8006 pad. DO you think that this will remove most of the swirls, or would I be better off using M105/M205? I know that I should start least to most aggressive, but I just wasn't sure if the Swirl X would perform well for pretty moderate swirls.

    Thanks!

It's definitely a good start. Your combo sounds very effective for what you want to accomplish and the condition of your paint. Don't forget to test it out on a small panel first (18"x18"). You may want to select an area that you feel has the heaviest swirling and see how effective SwirlX will be. If SwirlX doesn't remove the defects to your satisfaction, try Ultimate Compound next. Good luck and post before and after pictures.

How slow do I want to go with the G-100, and what speed do I want to use to remove the defects? Also, how can I tell when to stop polishing and wipe it off?

Not slow, but how fast. Between 4-5 on your speed dial (probably 5). Spread out the product over your work area with your DA, then use overlapping vertical and horizontal passes (called a serpentine pattern using about 6-8 passes over the same area). Move at a slow rate, about 2 inches per second.

SwirlX and Ulitmate Compound will not break down due to their SMAT technology, but you will see a change in consistency. It takes on a smeary look, almost like vaseline after you work in a few passes. The key is to NOT let it dry. Wipe the product off while it's still in this shiny state. Inspect, reapply if necessary.

If you dont have it, you really want to get the How To Get Show Car Results with the PC DVD from autodeatilingsolutions. It shows Mike using #80 to restore a car. SwirlX is of course a different product, but the machine techniques are similar.
