Application Steps to NXT tech wax

Hi all, I am currently using the Meguiars Cleaner Wax and just managed to purchase the NXT Tech Wax & Booster Spray Wax. I am just wondering what are the appropriate steps to getting the best results.

1. Should I continue using the Cleaner Wax as a surface preparation or should I switch to the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner instead? Which is more suitable?

2. After applying layer after layers of NXT booster wax/tech wax, how often do I need to prepare the paint surface again?

Hi there welcome to the board.

Great questions. You'll love the Tech wax.

By the way can you post some info about the vehicle? Are you trying to fix specific problems or flaws? What kind of finish are you starting with?

1. I'd say switch to the DC cleaner. This product will do a better job since it's a dedicated cleaner rather than a mix of steps like the cleaner wax. This will give you a better prepped surface which will help give the NXT more pop. The choice is up to you and how much time your willing to spend.

2. I'd use the cleaner every few months or when you want to start over on the paint surface. You'll notice wash marks and other defects are starting to comeback. Sometimes (maybe twice a year) I like to take off the old wax and start over with clay, cleaner, polish, and wax.

With your eyes, look for stains, etching, scratches, swirls etc. If you have these then you may need to use a product like ScratchX to remove them. If you feel little bumps on your finish, then this is a sign you have bonded contaminants and you should use a clay bar to clay your finish to remove these.

Only when the finish is free from above surface defects and below surface defects will you create the best results. Creating a show car shine starts with doing the proper prep work.

Hi Scrub, thanks for the warm welcome and advice. In actual fact, my paint work is still quite new except for some parts the shine is not very deep. I dunno if its due to the workmanship of the spray paint. One door reflects like mirror while the other is a little blur.

I was actually thinking of using some products to bring out the shine before protecting it with the tech wax.

Hi Mike, tks for the promt reply. As I mentioned to Scrub, the shine on some parts of my car seems deeper than certain parts. Some very shiny, some a little blur. Was thinking of polishing or cleaning it till it shines evenly. Any advice? Tks in advance.

I really can't comment on why the shine is different. I can offer some advice.

Will you be working with a machine or by hand? The answer to this will help determine the best method to attack the problem. As Mike stated before there are many steps to do to get the best results. Take a look at this to get started (if you haven't already). Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle

This will get you started.

In addition if working by hand you could try ScratchX. This could help reduce the blur and restore clarity. Use this article to help with application How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX .

If your going to use a machine then take a look at this. Electric Dual Action Polisher. Not trying to push sales or anything.

Hi Nitro,

The short answer is you can apply 2-3 applications of NXT Tech Wax at any one detailing session and after the 3rd coat, you will have reached the point of diminishing returns. After 2-3 coats it will be time to stand back and admire the results, not continue to apply layer after layer of product trying to build up extra protection or more and more and more clarity... if 2-3 coats of any company's paint protection product hasn't created the best possible looking results, more layers of the same product aren't going to help, instead you need to concentrate on the prep-work. Remember... paint has a maximum potential, just like a piece of glass can only be so clear, a clear coat finish can only be so clear and a single stage finish can only so rich in color.

I'm driving a Skoda Octavia. Quite rare over here. So am I right to say in other words, I could use the cleaner wax first followed by the NXT since the cleaner wax has polishing and cleaning substance?

I use Gold Class car shampoo to wash my car weekly. It seems that when I use a white color tissue paper to wipe it after the wash to check for dirt, it is still dirty.

Hence, I use the cleaner wax as recommended in this post.

After that, I use a new tissue paper and notice that the car is still dirty.

I know Meguairs product is non-abrasive (mild), but to this extend?

Just want to do a proper surface prep before applying NXT wax.

Hi, I also realize that the cleaner wax is not that powerful in removing dirt. After all it still has waxing contents. Maybe you can try the colorx instead. It has polishing contents. Or you can try the paint cleaner but it will take more hard work. Cleaner, Polish and Wax. Tiring dude...keep me updated.

guys,do you know what causes a blur shine?and a solution to make it sharp again?because the paintwork was once sharp but became like really shiny but only not clear(like you look at a line but it's shaky and like not straight.)thanks.
