  • Scratch X question

Mine question sounds quite redundant, but what is Scratch X used for?

Should I use Scratch X and top it off with ColorX, or ColorX alone is more than enough?

I just want to wax it for now.

If you just want to do a one-step procedure, then go for the ColorX. It's a strong cleaner, polish and wax all-in-one.

ScratchX is a paint cleaner and offers no wax protection but better defect removal ability.

    What are you working on?

Should I use Scratch X with it or use #2 fine cut cleaner with a DA polisher.

Scratch X by hand for the entire car is pretty tough..

          Hi fkong,

          Welcome to Meguiar's Online

ScratchX is formulated for use by hand and the #2 Fine Cut Cleaner is recommended to only be applied with a rotary buffer.

Does the car you're working on have a clear coat?

It is a 91 Acura Formula Red.. So There is a Clear coat. I guess I have the wrong product for the DA? which one should I use?

I can apply Scratch X by hand but it will take me forever. Since this is a car the is brought out from a 2 year Storage.

I had to Clay the car to get it somewhat shiney again. There was a lot of Caked on grime that doesn't even wash off.

If you're new to polishing with the dual action polisher, I would recommend getting some ColorX or some #80 Speed Glaze. Part number M-8032. Both offer good cleaning ability.

It's important to note that the cleaning step on a car that is in neglected condition typically takes the longest out of all the other processes because it is this step that will determine the overall, end results. For this reason it is really important to do a thorough job. We try to teach this each weekend at our Training Classes.

Sounds pretty bad, but I'm sure you'll mae a dramatic difference. Did you by chance take any Before pictures?

I clayed only one side.. so I can still take the picture with the grime.

ColorX is a easily availble . but I'll try to look for the #80

So with DA polisher Use ColorX or #80 to instead of Scratch X?

                  Cool

For either product, run the polisher around the 4.0 to 5.0 OPM setting, leaning toward the higher speed.

                  Good luck, have fun...
