Re: soft foam applicator vs microfiber applicator
Well, I like to use the foam applicators that come with Meguiars waxes such as NXT 2.0.
I use the microfiber ones for applying dressings and such.
Either one should one work fine, but the foam may be a tad bit more aggressive.Nick

Re: soft foam applicator vs microfiber applicator
There are a few different areas to apply dressing, but lots of dressings
You can apply dressing to your tires to make them look black
You can apply dressing to your plastic trim to make it look dark again
You can apply dressing to your inside dash etc.
It is what you apply to make it look new and shiny again, but also protect the area it is applied to from UV etc
also once you have used it for a dressing, don't ever try to use it for a wax applicator after that haha
I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.
I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
Remove swirls my friends.

Re: soft foam applicator vs microfiber applicator
Dressing, is just a term for putting a layer onto something.
Like the Trim, Dash, Tires etc.
But as Nick mentioned foam is a bit more aggressive.
I prefer foam over microfiber.Joel

Re: soft foam applicator vs microfiber applicator
Either way, If you happen to buy a Meguiars wax such as Gold Class or NXT 2,0, then it would be fine to use the applicator that is supplied with it. I cant say the same for all foam applicator pads because I am only familiar with the ones from Meguiars.
If your in doubt, then go with the microfiber applicator pads.Nick

Re: soft foam applicator vs microfiber applicator
For polishing the foam applicators are the ones for the job.
For waxing, I think it's a matter of personal preference. I normally use Meguiar's foam applicators or Megs even coat applicator.
As a personal recommendation, if you are already ordering products from an online supplier such as ADS spend a couple more dollars and get the Megs applicators, they are way better than the cheap ones you find at Walmart or local stores. You will be spending about the same and you will have a great durable product. Unless they get stained or are used too much you can always throw them in the washer.
