  • Police light bars & headlights

I've just been contracted to polish the lightbars on a local police department's 20 patrol cars after giving their chief a demonstration on one of them. All I had at that time was some ScratchX 2.0, but the results were phenominal, even by hand. For protection after cleaning, I used some 303 Aerospace Protectant that I'd had in the trunk.

What I want to know is would I be better off getting a bottle of UC & protecting the lights with some NXT 2.0, or should I just go straight to PlastX?

In theory, PlastX would be better....

You might want the Headlight Kit?

I'm sure there will be variance from one light to the next.

I would bring some PlastX, ScratchX 2.0, and UC just to be prepared for lights in better, or worse condition.

As for protecting the lights, PlastX does contain protection, but going over each light with some wax wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Do a test spot to see if wax, or the 303 looks better. I would try and replicate results that match the type of work that got you the job- or better.

PlastX, M105 is a great product to use on plastic too! Haven't tried UC so, can't comment.....

Those babies get pelted by bugs, at least our patrol cars do, rural No. California.

Post some pix if they let you

Ours are a mess too. I sold the idea as a safety issue since the light output is seriously diminished. They don't have a problem with pics as long as the dept isn't identified...amazing how those high speed bug suicides can really pock mark the plastic.

FYI, 303 Products recommends polishing with a mild compound first to take care of the first 95% of the oxidation, scratches etc, THEN using the protectant to finish it off.
So either way, I'll be using Megs for the heavy work, it's just the topper that I have to decide on. They just, recommend not applying 303 over fresh wax or sealants, so it's either UC + 303 or PlastX & NXT 2.0
