  • Have I sealed contaminants into my paint?

I have two brand new vehicles that I have been obsessed with protecting after the dealer tried their "Scare Tactics" to sell a paint protection warranty.

As soon as I brought the cars home, I started reading up on paint protection and registered here at MOL. I have read hundreds of posts and watched many of the instructional videos to learn how to 'Do it Right'. I went out and bought a bunch of MEG's products to complement a couple I already had at home; Fresh bottle of GC Wash, Natural Shine, Endurance, Aloe Leather, quick protectant wipes, UQD, a Clay Kit and NXT 2.0 - along with a stack of MicroFiber towels and wash mitt.

I washed the cars (2 buckets of course) and ran my hand across the hood and roof. I thought they felt 'smooth as glass', so I DID NOT use the clay and proceeded to wax with the NXT2.

Now as I have been following up with UQD to remove dust and water spots, I have found some rough places in the paint as well as some 'sticky' stuff where shipping paper was on the car. I now find spots I would have never noticed before.

That's the background, now -finally- here is the question:

Are these things now sealed into the paint? Can I still remove them with the clay? Do I have to clay the entire car, or just the scrathy parts?

My opinion of a clean car has certainly changed after reading and following the advice on this site. I think I am going 'Car Crazy". in NC!

    TIA for your help.
    Cheers!
    Richard

I would think If you clay you should be fine. I would see what others say to.

You can still clean your paint with the clay bar but you will have to reapply some wax or sealant. I would clay the whole car, you will be suprised.

You'd be amazed what kind of contaminants cars will pick up just sitting on a dealership lot.

Richard, if anything is "sealed" into the paint, it's not because of anything you have done or haven't done.

Yes, you should clay, if not now then perhaps the next time you want to wax. Why not clay? It's easy and safe to do; and if your car is in good condition, as it no doubt is, it won't take you very long to do it. There is something very satisfying about claying a section and then looking down at the clay bar and seeing all the dirt you have lifted off the surface of the paint.

Anything you waxed over will still be there when the wax wears off....

              Definately clay everything.

As everyone else said, CLAY IT! Do the entire car, you will be amazed at what comes off.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                Remove swirls my friends.

Wax doesn't last forever. The wax that you applied over any bonded contaminants will come off if you clay the vehicle along with the contaminants themselves. So if the paint feels rough, clay it. That should fix the roughness and give you the nice smooth finish you desire

Clay. You will be glad you did.
