  • Ultimate Compound is OUTSTANDING!

    Hey guys,

My wife backed into the plastic garbage cans about a month ago, leaving multiple scratches, including one deep 5 inch one. Anyway, I could feel most of them with my finger nail, so I figured that there was no way I woudl be able to remove them, and I would have to have a body shop repaint the door. I even stopped at the body shop to see if they would be able to wet sand them out, and the body shop guy was pretty skeptical since the one scratch was so deep.

    Anyway...

Today I decided to take some UC with a Meg's Foam Applicator and go to work. After about 3 applications, the scratches were literally gone. The one deep one is about 98% corrected, and once I hit it with the G-100, I bet it will be totally gone. I still can't believe that UC is this good. It's so easy to work with, doesn't cause any marring, and it really works! I'd give this product a 10.

Anyway, I'm sorry that I don't have before and after pictures. I really wish that I did, but I honestly didn't anticpate this stuff removing these scratches. However, I will try to take some tomorrow of the after results if it doesn't rain.

Lastly, I will use UC for all of my scratch issues from now on. This product is the bomb, no joke!

      Hey guys,

Speaking of Ultimate Compound - I noticed a few light scratches, and very FAINT swirls after using Swirl-X (two applications). Anyway, is there any harm in doing the hood with UC by hand? Will the UC most likely remove the little bit that's left of the swirls in one application?

      Thanks much!

Glad it worked for you. Do you intend to use UC for spotwork (like you described for individual areas of repair), or for overall DA/Hand application?

I'm not sure. I orignially started with Swirl-X, and although that removed most of the defects, it clearly didn't remove them all. So, I'm not going to mess around anymore - I'm going to step up to UC and use it on my hood, roof, and trunk lid. My doors look pretty good, so unless I find a lot of defects there, I will probably stick with using it on just my hood, roof, and trunk lid.

So far, I really like the UC a lot - it's super easy to work with, and the results are simply amazing!

Hmmm, this stuff sounds great but am I the only one worried about removing too much paint with it? So far though I haven't heard of any horror stories about such things.

Has anyone reported it helping with orange peel too?

Ya.... this is a great product....more aggressive than ScratchX.
No worries by hand...how much of clearcoat U can remove as compare to machine?? ( Just my 2cents opinion).

But then U will be blow away by M105 after U have try that.

As always.. do a spot test for any product U gonna try.

Just be careful you dont remove to much of the CC and leave it too thin in that area. Sometimes it is best for a deep scratch to try to improve it as much as you can and just live with it

i used scratch-x on a black civic and it did the same thing, left very fine swirls, i went back over the area with UC and it removed those faint swirls and finished down very nicely, then I put on some wax and sat back and enjoyed the depth and gloss

Hi, don't mean to sound like a noob, but since SwirlX/ScratchX has DAT in it, if it leaves small swirls behind wouldn't that mean you work it in long enough to break it down?

Go for it. Make sure you work clean, that is everything is clean, the car the paint, your applicator, everything. Work small sections at at time, when you move onto a new section be sure to overlap a little into the previous section.

Use common sense, don't try to remove scratches and other defects that are too deep. Your clear coat paint is thin so sometimes you're better off improving a defect and not completely trying to remove it, especially you're working on a daily driver, not a show car.
