  • Need product help/advice!

    Hey guys,

I need some help with choosing some products. First of all, I live in a condo, so I don't have easy access to a hose. However, I've been using a 1 gallon mister/sprayer (kind you'd use to spray on pesticides, etc.) Anyway, it works great for rinsing my rims, etc. Also, I've been doing Optimum NO Rinse car washes, but I need to get some products for the following things:

    1. My rims on my 2007 Acura TSX (OEM). What Meguiars product is good at removing brake dust, and tire sling from tire shine? Also, I would like something that is easily rinsed, and since I will be using a 1-gallon mister to rinse them, I want something that won't destroy my rims should they not get rinsed as good as they should. Granted I will keep filling the mister and really rinsing them, but just in case.

    2. What is a good, NON-slinging tire gel? I've been using Megs Endurance (works good - great shine) but I've been noticing some tire sling. Is there anything that WON'T do this?

If someone could help me out, that would be great!

    Thanks much!

    Jeff

    I like:

    1. The Aluminum Wheel Cleaner (or Multi-Piece if you have a Big Lots nearby) are the gentlest cleaners. Just wet the wheel, spray on, agitate with a soft brush, and rinse off. You might find getting a few real wet towels in a bucket helps also?

    2. To prevent tire sling, you also have to have clean tires. I like to use APC on the tires, then wash wheels, then rinse it all off together. I do not seem to have sling trouble with the Insane Shine Trigger Spray, or All Season Dressing.

Sorry I can't stay up on all the wheels in the world so a little more clarification is needed, what is the surface of the wheel made out of?

If they are factory clear coated/painted wheels then you can use All Wheel Cleaner, if they are any type of uncoated metal then you should stick with Aluminum Wheel Cleaner

Usually an All Purpose Cleaner will remove tire sling from too much product on the tire. Maybe dish washing detergent?

Easily rinsed is usually hoped for but not always the reality. Factors like how dirty the wheels are to start with will greatly affect how much effort you'll have to add to cleaning the wheel with muscle and sprayers like you're talking don't offer a strong force of water which is what you want and need.

Might have to look into some different options for the wheels depending upon how dirty they are.

If you clean them often you could avoid the wheel cleaner and just Quik Wheel Detailer.

Tire dressings don't sling if there's no excess product on the surface to transfer off when inertia kicks in... create a collection of clean towels you can use just for wiping off any excess tire dressing or try to be more careful about only applying a thin coating with no excess product on the surface. That's a touch one without some dedication to the application process or without wiping the tire after you're done.

        Thanks Mike!

I will have to look into that Quick wheel detailer. That stuff looks pretty good!

        Thanks again!
