  • Ultimate Compound + Color-X + M21 2.0 (x2) =

For my car's first detail of 2009, I decided to go with a mixed bag of Megs "New for 2009" and a few older things.

    GC Car Wash
    Ultimate Compouind
    Color-X
    M21/2.0 (x2)

After a nice GC bath, I rubbed the paint with UC & a polishing pad. The residue was a bit tough to remove, but I think it was a combination of applying it too heavy & not waiting long enough, so I left the majority of the residue on the paint and applied the Color-X w/finishing pad right over top the UC residue (an old trick I picked up years ago). This time the residue of both wiped off easily leaving the paint with a slick, glossy surface. Next up was the 21/2.0, The first time I used it (on that trashed Accord) I must have put it on a bit thick, because it got a bit blotchy. So this time, I applied it so thin with a finishing pad that I had to look hard at several angles to ensure I was actually applying anything & since I was getting it so thin I did two applications. Unfortunately it was raining yesterday and there is no sun again today, so here are the pics I took last night in the garage...unfortunately they don't do the finish justice.

      Thanks

I had some very light smear marks when I was done, but I didn't want to do anything else until the polymers set up at least overnight. What do you think...UQD or UQW?

I would say just QD, wipe the car down, then go back over it with UQW

You're only as good as your last detail

            Hey Don,

Just so you know, you shouldn't let any polish or compound dry on your paint. The product does not accomplish anything by drying aside from making itself more difficult to remove. The only products that should be left to dry are waxes or sealants.

This should make it easier for you next time

            Car looks good though!

Thanks. I was attempting the KB? method starting on the hood, but it wasn't working out so well for me, so I just decided since I was going to have to clean off the hood with the Color-X, I might as well do the whole car that way.
