Then (drum roll) my 1978 Dodge Aspen. Yes, I said 1978. It was my great grandmothers and she willed it to my grandmother who willed it to me. My wife thinks it is an ugly car and has no potential. I think it is a diamond in the rough. I did a small part of the hood tonight and my wife thinks it might just be that diamond I speak of. I will try to post pictures throughout the process. My goal is to use only Meguiars products and post the before & after pictures online. Wish me luck. Oh, for the skeptic in the crowd.....STOP being skeptic....take the leap. I did, and will never go without a CLAY BAR in my detailing toolbox.

Not as old as your Aspen but close. Talk about a diamond in the rough.

So, I did like any car nerd and looked online for "how to's" and low and behold almost every article discussed using a CLAY bar. So, I went to my local retail store and found the Meguiars Clay Bar Kit. Then my son and I proceeded to work the clay bar on the hood and BINGO the paint became silky smooth like glass and like a little school kid with a new trick I took the bar from my son and did the whole car. We then used the car wax cleaner and it became smoother. Finally, some high end Meguiars wax and it shines like NEW!!!!! I was so amazed I am thinking about taking a day off from work to do my truck and my wifes Nissan. THANK YOU Meguiars for a great product. The down side is I used a little too much of the Quik Detailing lubricant spray and have to find some more. HIGHLY recommend this product to any car enthusiast.

You cant use too much lube. What i started doing is filling a spray bottle 50:50 with detailing spray and water, (saw it on you tube ) so I dont use as much quick detailer spray. I just got some last touch and a lot of people on here say it is an effective clay lube diluted 50:50 or 1:1.

Okay CLAY Fans....THREE cars in THREE days. I just finished my '02 Chevy Silverado and everything but the deep scratches (my 17yr old going off road) came out. It is shiny, looks and feels like glass. I am so adicted to that little CLAY BAR. GHAINES....good job and welcome to the CLAY CLUB, first rule, talk about CLAY CLUB! I do not have the G110 yet but I think your combo of products was perfect. Personally, I just do the CLAY, then WAX CLEANER, then GOLD CLASS or NXT 2.0. Oh, for those older car guys (Don & Andy M) I will keep you posted on the Aspen. It will definately be an ALL day affair with me the CLAY and a lot of WAXES.....can't wait. While the wife is soaking by the pool I will be waxing.

You might like to get a little stronger cleaner, at least ColorX, if not SwirlX for the tougher jobs.

You should use Color-X at the minimum...look at Mike Phillips' thread Bronco II Extreme Makeover where he uses clay and Color-X by hand. But with the introduction of the 2009 product line, I would be sure to take aqdvantage of their capabilities as well.

I will look at the ColorX. The funny thing is the car is an off white, creamish color. Tried to start it for the first time in a year and it did not want to start so I will have to push it into washing position. Will still keep you posted.

Good luck on the Aspen. We need pictures of it.

Claying is a very underrated product. If more people knew of the benefits of a claybar they would be hooked. I know I was very skepticalat first. It makes a believer out of you in no time.

Sure can clay windows and wheels....

Just make sure it is an old piece for the wheels, dont want to bring that back up onto the paint.

MrWaxer, you do not realize just how much fun and rewarding it truly is. ALL, I took some before pictures and some in the process. Oh, I felt like playing so I took a small piece of clay and did the 31 year old chrome bumpers.....OMG!!!! They are like mirrors....so cool. The guy who invented this stuff deserves a big pay bonus. I will upload the pictures as soon as the whole project is done. Wish me luck, my fingers are starting to hurt....LOL!

All, I posted the photos of the '78 Aspen in the gallery.

I would like to thank all of you that kept asking for pictures.....you were my motivation. I did not want to post pictures of a crappy product. It took 12 hours but boy does it look 10x better. If I could get it to run then I would be real happy. Again, thanks for the morale support

P.S. Mike I can not find the one post about how to get pictures into my post or thread. Anyway you can point me in the right direction?

                                Nice work! Going from this:

                                To this:

On your first time out is pretty good. With time, you'll get faster. One tip about posting before & after pics...try to show the same view...like with the 'before' pic of the hood I posted, you need an 'after' taken from the same angle/viewpoint
