  • KB method with Swirl X & UC?

From my basic understanding, the KB method involves saturating all the pores in the pad with M105 or M205 polish before polishing your car. I was just wondering, can you use the KB method with Swirl X & UC? They are, after all, just consumer versions of M105 & M205 with the same SMAT technology, right?
Also, I'll be using a FLEX DA. Don't know if that will make a difference.
Too much of a good thing is even better!

Yes, you can use them that way. I wouldn't use the swirl X that way though. I don't think the finish will be LSP ready. I love UC!!

Yes and no. UC and SwirlX are not directly correlating consumer versions of M105/205. If you look at the aggressiveness order (Aggressiveness Order for New Consumer Products - This will surprise you!), M105 ranks ahead of UC for abrasion properties and has the most cutting ability of all Meguiars cleaners - in fact, someone just posted a revised agressiveness order that showed a least a half dozen products separating 105 from UC. SwirlX, conversely, is more agressive than M205 which is an ultra finishing polish with mild cutting ability, while SwirlX is a cleaner polish with slightly more bite.

Just to confirm what ClearlyCoated wrote,

M105 and Ultimate Compounds are both in the same category of products, (Compounds), but are different formulas, they are not the same product but in different bottles. M105 is more aggressive than Ultimate Compound and is formulated for use with a rotary buffer.

M205 and SwirlX are both in the same category of products, (Cleaner/Polishers), but are different formulas, they are not the same product but in different bottles. SwirlX is more aggressive than M205. M205 is formulated for use with a rotary buffer but SwirlX is not.

All of the above products can be used with a DA Polisher, a Traditional Orbital Polisher and by hand.

As for the KB Method of priming a pad before use, you could use this method with any paint care product by Meguiar's.

Is there a reason to have UC if you already have M105?

            Sure!

You can use SwirlX and Ultimate Compound using Kevin's pad priming method. That being said, the pad priming can be used with any machine (DA, Flex DA, orbital, and rotary).

This link should really help explain things in detail:

Thanks for the link. Looks like it pays to be on all the forums. IIRC, you posted the same info and pics at Autogeek, but I found the Q & A's much more helpful this time around.

Sorry about that... I can't keep track of all these forums and users...

No need to be. Not Everybody makes their rounds to all the forums.
