  • NXT over Zaino

Firstly, I am a long time Zaino user and former Megs user -- I have a 2003 Dark Shadow Grey Mustang Mach 1 that has just been claybared, zainoed, and is going to be shown this weekend.

I have very light scratches, that are probably not really visible to anyone but me -- however I have heard that NXT can possibly hide these via filling them. Plus the pics I have seen of NXT have been very impressive...a nice deep shine.

So can I put NXT directly over a full Zaino application without any issues?
Will it hide very minor surface scratches?

The show is saturday and I'm really busy between now and then so is it worth it?

    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,

Often times at the Saturday clinics we will have serious enthusiasts with a variety of different products on their car's finish, this includes Zaino. From my experience, NXT over Zaino will increase clarity and gloss while adding richness. It will also help to eliminate fine swirls.

Here is a recent forum member's post that previously used Zaino,

    It Paid Off

Here's a Friend's car, a friend I made at a Mini Cooper Detailing Clinic here at Meguiar's' that switched over to NXT. Sorry, I don't have any before pictures, I usually do. He was a little hesitant to let me apply the NXT Tech Wax to his car's finish because he had used nothing but the Zaino on it since he purchased the car new. To tell you the truth, while his finish was shiny, it was filled with hundreds of thousands of fine swirls in the finish.

Here's what it looks like after one coat of NXT applied with the G-100

Choosing the right car wax for you and your car will always come down to personal preference. The best thing to do is to purchase a bottle and give it a fair try. Then you be the judge.

I have never had any problems applying NXT Tech wax directly over Zaino.

Thanks a lot mike -- I'm prbably going to get a bottle from Wal mart tonight.

Another question for you -- do I need to buy the NXT spray stuff with it too? Or will my zaino spray detailer work?

      thanks

You don't need to use the NXT Spray Wax. NXT Tech Wax does not require the use of the Spray Wax this is an optional product. One note about the NXT Spray Wax, it is not a quick detailer, that is it is not for removing light dust, smudges etc., it is a thin spray on booster wax for maintaining that just waxed look in-between regular washing and waxing.

Also, two thin coats of NXT Tech Wax, and any wax for that matter will almost always look better than one coat.

        Enjoy!

one last question -- will NXT remove previous layers of Zaino? I've heard in the past the only way to remove Z was vinager or alcohol...

          thanks for the quick replies

I'll say yes, it will remove some or most of it. Depends on how you apply it. It will probably remove more of it if you apply Tech Wax using a dual action polisher like Meguiar's G-100 because of the cleaning action provided by the high speed oscillating action.

If you apply a coat of NXT Tech Wax gently by hand with a clean, soft foam applicator pad, then it will probably remove less. Depends on how how much Zaino is really present on the surface and how strong it's actual bond is. There are a lots of claims and assumptions about this product but who knows what's really happening at the microscopic level.

NXT Tech Wax contains a sleight amount of a very specialized cleaner that is responsible for it's ability to do a number of things, one of which is to eliminate fine swirls.

I don't really want to get involved in any wax wars because it's really pointless. People have strong emotions about their choice of car wax on the Internet and everyone is free to use whatever product they like and looks good in their eyes.

            That's why I always say,

”Find something you like and use it often”

If you find a product you like, then apparently the results look good in your eyes, if you use it often, then your finish will always look great. It's only when you begin to neglect or abuse the finish that it goes down hill.

There's plenty of room in the market place of different products as well as different opinions. The best thing to do is to get your hands on the products that interest you and give them a fair test and then make up your own mind.

What kind of car are you working on? Can you post a picture that reflects it's accurate condition that it is in right now?

I had the same problem with my Mustang.

I also applied NXT over Zaino to cover the light scratches. I went over a 2 month old dual Z5 layer. If you do 2 coats of NXT and wait at least 12 hours between, you will get just what you want. Take a look at my Mach in my thread.

Discussion on Meguiar's Classic, Gold Class, NXT, Ultimate, and Hybrid Ceramic Product Lines

NXT seems to work magic to the Mustang finish. I've used Zaino since I got it a year ago, and always fought those small cobwebs in the paint. After 3 days of the NXT I had 2 friends who are both enthusiasts ask me if I shot the car with more clear......

                Hi Craigster,

                You mean this one?

                NXT on Mach 1 - #26 after ???

This week, the guy who owns the Ferrari in this thread,

Each one, teach one... Ferrari Fiorano 355 F1 Spider

told me that he last Sunday he took his Ferrari to a car show and his buddies kidded him about buying yet another Ferrari. They thought he purchased another Ferrari because they were looking at didn't look anything like it did before as the results from the Meguiar's makeover were so dramatic. He also told me that his detailer is continuing to pick up new customers, (I told Martin to raise his rates also).

I have not been asked to attend SEMA. I will be posting Meguiar's new product the night before SEMA/APPEX starts here on Meguiar's Online.

Well -- I put on 2 coats of NXT back to back, altough I'll try another one tomorrow before the show if I get a chance and I have to say I'm extremely impressed with the results.

I used to use gold class on my pewter metallic 1999 Firebird, but it was nothing like NXT. And since my car is never out in the rain and is mostly covered I'm not really concerned with how long NXT lasts, as goes the Zaino argument.

The depth of the finish is really impressive -- it looks a lot more full. Plus, I'm actually glad I hit walmart at 3:30am on my way home from work to pick it up....

Also thanks for the advice Mike!

Anyway -- I'll try to post some pics with Zaino and the with the NXT (althought they were not taken in the same sitting) when I get home.

Oh -- and just so you guys know, my process was as follows:

                          1-wash with Z soap
                          2-clay bar with Z
                          3-rewash with Z soap
4-apply Z6 to smooth out the finish -- buff with terry towel
5-apply Z5 with accelerator -- buff with terry towel
5.5-splurge and pick up NXT at walmart at 3:30
6-2 coats of NXT --buff with 100% cotten flanel cloth

(I think I got my Zs correct)

                          Thanks guys,
