  • When to Use UQD and When to Use UQW

There are different times to use each product, and they both serve different purposes.
    THIS IS NOT MY WORK!!!
Michael Stoops Wrote this in another thread, and I wanted it in a separate thread for other people to see.

"How and when you use UQD and UQW are quite different, and rather important.

UQD is a quick detailer mist and wipe product designed to add lubricity to the surface allowing you safely remove light dust and finger print smudges. It has the added bonus of leaving some hydrophobic polymer protection behind.

UQD is a spray wax that is exceptionally easy to use and won't stain trim, and it can even be applied in direct sunlight on a warm surface. But you do NOT want to apply it to a dusty surface, or use it to remove dust and fingerprints."- Michael Stoops

so both of the products should be used in step 5 "maintainance" just after washing the car right? which one would you recommend to use if i washed my car every 2-3 days after rainfall??..

      Yes.

Right after you have washed and dried the car you could use the Ultimate Quik Wax because the surface would be clean and ready to accept a wax.

If there is light dust on the paint then you would use Ultimate Quik Detailer to remove the light dust.

One is for cleaning, one is for protecting a clean surface.

Just wanted to point that out so there's no confusion.

Wanted to do an extra touch up to the SLK today, so instead of only using UQD, I followed it with UQW. Gorgeous look!!!

I tell you, by doing a complete detail with solid wax foundation, quick detailing with UQD regularly, and then using UQW or another wax every 10-14 days, you can really maintain that full just waxed appearance and feel.

So in order to maintain a waxed look I should use UQD first and then UQW after every wash I do? Or is using either of them enough?

Assuming you had just washed the car, you can do either one. You would not need to do both.

ok, but the function of either of them is pretty much the same right? to enhance and maintain the wax?

After a wash, you would *not* need to do both.

I did both because I rarely wash my vehicle, so the UQD step I was effectively cleaning/washing the car. I UQD every 2-3 days, sometimes more often.

UQW I could see using after almost every wash though for someone that washes regularly, since it is so easy.

For UQD, I would save it, for when you want to remove dust, between washing.

                      Well, yes and no.

UQD is a quick detailer, so it can be used to remove light dust/bird droppings, etc. It also puts a coating of the hydrophobic polymers on the surface. It is not for use with clay.

UQW puts a thin coat of wax with the hydrophobic polymers on the surface.

So yes, both have some benefit after a wash, though UQW will leave a bit more protection. But, no, they are not the same product.

What if you have hard water and after drying you have some minor water spotting/smearing that you would normally have to use a quik detailer to remove - would UQW suffice at removing/cleaning mild water spotting/smearing or would I have to use a detail spray before using UQW? I've never used UQW yet so I'm just wondering what the proper step for me to do after a nice hard water mineral bath, lol. So I'm just wondering if UQW has some mild cleaners in it where I wouldn't have to use a detail spray for removing minor mineral spotting/smearing after a wash before using it.

If you're removing water spots that appear immediately after washing then either UQD or UQW should work just fine. We have pretty hard water here in SoCal too, and some cars seem to hold onto water in crazy places and won't release it until about 5 minutes after you think you're done and walk away. Either product does an excellent job removing these little surprises, even if you don't find them until the next morning.

Since UQW is basically a polymer sealant, any problem applying it to a carnuba wax base? My understanding is that a polymer sealant adheres best to paint w/o wax.
