  • Does M83 have as good polishing oils as M80?

    I don't have any M80.

I always hear people compliment the rich polishing oils in M80 as being similar even to #7 polishing oils.

However, what about M83 that I have? Does M83 have the same rich polishing olis, or not so much?

    Thanks!

    Uh.....

If memory serves, it either doesn't have as much or doesn't have the oils that M80 does. The title is Dual Action Cleaner Polisher, not to be confused for use by a Dual action cleaner polisher soley.....I thought that when I FIRST got into Meguiar's. Thought M83 was to be used by a PC only..... It was when I was learning the lingo spoke by detailers....The language is Detaileze, a dialect of OCD.....

I love M80, it works so well on single stage paints. Actually, it worked great on our Yukon with dual stage paint.

Hopefully others chime in and as you know, it's the weekend and the Meguiar's brass is off but our fearless Mods are on all the time, lurking

M83 is a great product though, I use it followed by M80 currently and have not tried the new improved M105/M205 combo yet.....

I use M07 on single stage paint and it works awesome!

M83 has the appropriate amount of polishing oils for the purpose the chemist formulated it for; it's not a better or worse cleaner/polish than M80, it's just a different cleaner/polish than M80

        Even Mike lurks after hours.....

A different polish for sure, I hope I didn't sound like it was not as good. I love the M83/M80 combo. It's what I first learned on.....

It does not have as many oils in it though. Remember, M83 is a cleaner vs. M80 which is a cleaner/polish.

I'm not a Meguiar's chemist so I can not tell you how much or how little polishing oils there are in 83, but it has done a good job for me in the past. In fact I have used 83 on panels of my truck that needed a little more correction work than I was able to get with 80 alone, and the 83 left the finish looking just as good as if I would have only used 80. There was no need for me to follow up 83 with 80. I was able to go straight to wax. That's not to say it will work that way on all paints, and that is why Mike always says to do a test spot to make sure your product and technique works before tackling the entire vehicle.

So I would not worry about how many oils there are in the product. Just go out there and do a test spot and see how the product works out for you.

Also 83 is a cleaner polish (says so right on the bottle), it's just a more aggressive cleaner polish than 80.

Hehe, lol, forgot about that last part

I meant M80 has more oils in it that M83 (M83 is more of a cleaner), though M83 still does a pretty good job.
