  • Car Washes Difference?

I never thought about it before but the other day I was actually confused in selecting a car wash at my local auto parts store. I ended up with the NXT Wash which was a little higher in price but I thought it would clean better. What is the difference between the car washes Meguiars offers?

I think Nxt cleans pretty good, Gold Class seems to leave a nice finish.

Certainly can do a search to turn up some threads with other peoples opinions though.

Why pay more, Gold Class will clean just as good if not better than anything on the shelves

If they all clean the same why the difference in prices? There must be some difference to explain the costs.

Nxt does contain some softeners if you have to deal with hard water.

OVERHEAD! new products, new technology, new formula etc, etc. car wash is car wash, I would spend more money on the wax and polish, no need in throwing your money down the drain

I agree with you to a point but those new technologies and new forumulas are what I am interested in. Perhaps that new product simply cleans better than the previous. Perhaps those new formulas create better lubrication and thus create less drag from the dirt particles resulting in fewer scratches and swirls. Perhaps those new technologies can pull bonded contaminents off the paint better resulting in a cleaner, brighter finish.

The starting point of any detail is a good wash. If you don't wash it good then you could possibly leave dirt behind on the finish. What happens if you take your drying cloth over a spot with dirt on it? You scratch and swirl your finish. What happens if you take your wax applicator over a dirty spot? You scratch and swirl your finish.

I am a firm believer of creating as little work for myself as I can. So why create scratches and swirls that you have to buff out later when you can just wash and dry?

I have found Gold Class to be hands down Meguiars best wash in their consumer line... I have used NXT, Deep Crystal and Gold Class. Out of the three Gold Class seems to leave the finish looking deeper and darker and has excellent 'lubricity' overall a better look to the paint and IMO its worth the extra $$.

Second in my book would be NXT, not as slick as gold class and I don't seem to get quite the same look to my paint but overall as a wash it does work well.

Now if they could just mix those new Hydrophobic Polymers in a wash and give the look UQD leaves.

As for the price I would guess it has something to do with the make up of the product. If it works better I will pay more...

I completely agree. I want the best wash.

I have only used the NXT. I just ran out of my supply of Mothers and can say without a doubt that NXT cleans better and looks better in the end. Mothers only offers one choice where Meguiar's has 6 or 7 between all the lines if not more.

I have used every Meguiar's car wash out there and Gold Class is hands down the best overall product for the consumer.

If your a professional detailer that washes 6-7+ cars a day, something like Hyper Wash would be better and more cost efficient.

                      All depends on your preferences.

I think next time I will buy some Gold Class and see if there is a difference.

I would still like to know what the formulation differences are? I know it can't just be the same washes in varying concentrations in different bottles with different coloring added.

They are not - use the different ones and you will see the difference.

                            Re: Car Washes Difference?

I use to think the same way. I was skeptical the first time I used Gold Class. What is all the hoopla about. Well I am by no means a scientist. However the dirt seems to lift away with way less chance to scratch the paint. It seems to look better. And the formula seems to be more consistent thruout the bottle. I hope I explained that one correctly. Now lately I have been using Shampoo plus. I would have to say I like the way this cleans a car even more. With the shampoo plus even the wife has noticed a difference.

I guess its all in your expectations. I know mine have changed greatly, since using a better car wash soap.

Might have to give Shampoo Plus a try it sounds like. But you sure can never go wrong with Gold Class.
