First off is the Porter Cable a Rotary Buffer? I have an Orbital Buffer I think...will this be as effective as the Porter Cable? Also can someone please inform me on how to use it properly. I have never used it to clean, polish, or wax. I have always done it by hand. How do I apply teh product: to the pad or the paint first. If there is a writeup on this then you can just link me to it. Thank you in advance.

Porter Cable does make a rotary buffer but, I believe the machine you are seeing references to is the dual action polisher by Porter Cable, the base model is 7335 and you will see it refered to as the 7336 and 7424. The action is very similar to the orbital polisher you have but, it is capable of higher speeds (adjustable) and there are far more accessories available. It is well worth it.

The rotary Porter Cable I believe is the 7428.

Another benefit to the Porter Cable Dual Action polisher is that it utilizes backing plates with Velcro so that you can quickly and easily change pads.

The pad size is also much smaller than most traditional orbital buffers which offers better cleaning and polishing action and also enables to you work in tight areas and small panels. It’s light weight which means you will use less energy while using it.

The best thing about a PC is the results they deliver. Your hand will never achieve the same results capable by the PC. I have never met anyone who regretted purchasing a porter cable. Completely worth the investment if your into your car and want the best results from your time, money and efforts.

And for large vehicles, like boats and RV’s… it’s a no brainer. Meguiar’s sells a version of the Porter Cable Dual Action polisher called the G-100 which comes with a backing plate and one W-8006 foam polishing pad. It also comes with a lifetime warranty. I think all of the other places that sell the porter cable dual action polisher only offer a 1-year warranty.

So, is the G-100 the same as the Porter-Cable 7424P. I understand you work for the company, and I appreiciate that. But a $100 difference is a bit hard to swallow for a "weekend waxer". Why should I spend the extra money with Maguiar's. I can buy a whole lot more product (pads, polishes, waxes and sealants) from you with the extra money.

Please don't take this post the wrong way, I am just on a fixed income and $100 is a lot to me right now.

Both machines are the same. The base model is Porter Cable 7335. The different model numbers like 7336 and 7424 represent different options like backing plates and pads that come with the machine. The real difference is that the Meguiars G-100 comes with a LIFETIME warranty whereas everyone else is selling them with the standard 1 year warranty.

I understand, I think the actual model number you are looking for is 7424.



I would stick with the Meguiar's backing plate and pad system as the one it comes with isn't the quality you are probably looking for.

Thanks for the comments. OK, what pads will I need to get started,

Obviously a couple of foam pads (for application)
and which polishing or buffing pads should I get. BTW, I will purchase all my pads from Meguiar's. Any others?

Also, wouldn't the W-DAV99 be a better deal, then add the bonnetts?

If your concerned about the price of Meguiars DA Polisher, then I would recommend that you purchase it with a kit of other Meguiar's products...I bought mine that way and I saved some money in the long run...That way you get the lifetime warranty too.
