  • Another question on cure time...

I know that there is a cure time for NXT. This means that I should wait for a few hours before applying a 2nd coat.

Now, if I plan on doing only one coat, should I wait a few hours before driving the car or should I make sure there's time to keep the car inside a garage ?

    Hi mis3,

Waiting a few hours before applying a second coat of wax should offer some benefit versus applying immediately afterwards. How much benefit would be hard to gage and most people couldn't probably tell any difference.

As to your second question, if you're going to expose the car to rain, or inclement weather, then waiting a few hours minimum would be better than removing the wax and immediately exposing the fresh coat of wax to washing, rain or the elements.

The idea is to not disrupt the polymers until they have fully set-up.

OK, is it a few hours or 24 that you should wait inbetween coats of NXT? I've read a lot of people on other forums saying you should wait 24 hours, who knows where they got that info though.

There are too many environmental variables to determine the exact cure time required. To name a few: temperature, is the car outdoor or indoor, is it under the sun or in the shade, how much wax was applied, any wind, any dust, etc...

The 24-hour cure time is just a guideline, a worse case scenerio. For me, I usually apply the first coat one-day, keep the car inside and apply the 2nd coat the next day. Usually the elapsed time is between 10-20 hours.

Oh,, and you can't drive your car during this time
Then, the best time to apply NXT is at night before you go to bed.

So there is basically little benefit of applying that second coat if you're only waiting a few hours?

            Am I understanding this right?

I think they mean there is very little "visual" benefit. But there's still a second layer of protection.
