  • Pressure when applying wax by hand

I have used two hand applications of the basic #A1216 Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax over the past year on a new car with excellent paint.

It is a Cavalier base/clear. The color happens to be white. It is garaged and not driven daily.

I have been very satisfied with both the visual and durability aspects of this product. The paint is bright, but it also shows some depth.

Keeping it protected has kept it free of swirls.
I suppose the cleaning and polishing agents in the wax have helped in this regard as well.

    I have three questions:

    1. I have already purchased NXT. What will I accomplish by applying a coat of NXT in the next short while?

    2. How much hand pressure should I used when applying either the Cleaner/Wax or NXT? Will different hand pressures accomplish different effects? I am applying using a foam applicator.

    3. I would be happy receiving 90% of the ultimate look, durability is more of a concern. Will using these two products help me achieve that goal.

I just waxed it with the A1216 Cleaner/Wax. Looks great!

NXT Tech Wax will add more gloss and protection than a coating of Meguiar's A-12 Cleaner/Wax

The answer to your question is yes. For more cleaning action, apply more pressure and work a product more aggressively. Once the finish has been cleaned, or if you're starting out with a clean finish, then you don't need to press your hand down as hard or work the product as aggressively. Instead just work the product in firmly and thoroughly.

      3. I would be happy receiving 90% of the ultimate look, durability is more of a concern. Will using these two products help me achieve that goal.
Yes. Using the cleaner/wax first will help to clean and polish the paint, following with NXT Tech Wax will build on these results and add more gloss, (in the case of white paint), and leave behind more protection.

      Hope this helps...

I'm a bit confused here. I heard that NXT generation tech wax should be applied on an unwaxed surface for better bonding.
By applying the cleaner wax first, followed immediately with NXT, the NXT will not last long.

Besides, NXT contains some cleaning agents and there is no need for cleaner wax.

          Is this correct?

NXT Tech Wax should be applied to a previously cleaned and polished surface, not an unwaxed surface.

            Where did you get this?

            This is incorrect.

As stated hundreds of times on this forum and others, the cleaning ability of NXT Tech Wax is very limited, it's not formulated to tackle a wide spectrum of surface defects like a true cleaner/wax. That's why it works so great, on a neglected surface if you first pre clean with a dedicated paint cleaner, or a cleaner/wax like the A-12 Cleaner/Wax or ColorX.

The Tech Wax continues to build upon the results the previous products produce taking your final results to an even higher appearance level. It's really quite simple.

There are some people on the Internet that try to position NXT Tech Wax as an aggressive clean/wax, this is simply not true and typically posted by people with an agenda. The problem is all of the fantastic results that people that use the product keep getting, such as this,

NXT Tech Wax makes a great topper over any Meguiar's Cleaner Wax. First use the cleaner/wax to clean and polish the finish and then apply the NXT Tech Wax to take your results to a deeper, glossier, more optically clear, high gloss shine.
