  • Which Lake County CCS pad should i use with Color-X?

I just bought a G110 on ebay and it comes with 4 Orange pads, 2 white pads, 2 gray pads, and 1 blue pad, pad cleaner, and pad conditioner.

I know the white pad is for light cutting and the orange pads are for heavier cutting. The description says the gray and the blue pad are for finishing.

I plan on using Color-X on my mother's corolla. Which pad do i use? Lake County has like 10 different pads its so confusing.

I got all that for $144

I would apply colorx as if i was applying a wax so i would use a finishing pad, you should be fine with a finishing pad.

I would try the white pad, it's pretty gentle. If it isn't leaving a finish you like then move to the blue pad.

Thanks for the replies. When i was searching on MO and on Google, i didnt get any results. I found out that it was Lake COUNTRY, not COUNTY.... there's lot of info on the web lol.

        Anyway, thanks!

Lake Country is about 30 miles from my home. They make a very wide selection of pads. I personally dislike the CCS pads but their flat pads are excellent. On a par with Meg's pads IMHO but they have a much larger variety. For me, the CCS pads seem to tear apart at the edges where they are cross-cut with my rotary. I've spoken with them about it and I believe the CCS line is not as durable as the flat pads with aggressive polishes. The CCS seem ok on my PC though.

With the flat pads I'd go with the white pad for polishing and the black for finishing.

In the CCS line I'd go with the orange for polishing and the black for finishing.

Lake Country web site has a good pad usage chart.

I'm anxious to try out the new Meg's 2.0 pads so I can't compare them but I can say that both companies make great pads. I like the fact that the new Meg's pads are described as washable. Suggests to me that they may hold up better than the older variety.

            CCS pads are cross-cut?

            Isn't this the pad?

              Something to consider...

If using a diminishing abrasive with any type of pad that's not flat, there is the potential for the diminishing abrasives to accumulate into the recessed areas and not receive enough pressure to break them down. Whether this happens or not depends upon how much pressure is applied because theoretically if enough pressure is applied then all portions of the foam surface is pushed or squished-out against the paint.

If light pressure is applied then the potential for product accumulation into recessed areas likely increases.

Just be careful when selecting pad to product combination and always do a test post with your selection to a small area and make sure you're getting the results you want before going over the entire car. If not then adjust your pad and product selection until you can dial in a successful process to one small area and then duplicate this or cookie-cutter this over the entire car.

                Good point...I've wondered this myself.

I have a few orange CSS pads but have yet to try them, so I can't comment on thier performance. Well built, though.

Do you have to get CCS pads or will they sell you some standard flat pads?

I have a few CCS pads and really wish that I would have just got the flat pads. The CCS sounds interesting in concept, but does not work.

Mike is spot-on here. I experienced this myself and had a eureka moment. I was having a heck of a time using a diminishing abrasive and the CCS pads and just couldn't get it to finish out right. Switched to Meguiar's flat pads with diminishing abrasives and the ugly finish and my problem both went away

I use Meguiar's flat pads for all diminishing abrasive based products, and the SOLO yellow pads (LOVE them) for the new micro abrasives (M86, M105, D151, and soon M205!!!!!)

                      Thanks for the replies

The package came with the CCS pads. I bought it off ebay from aaa motoring. I've never used the DA before so i guess i'll have to learn using these pads. Dont want to let them go to waste.

Don't get me wrong, they work...they aren't "bad" pads, just be aware of the potential for problems due to the pockets. I ran into it first hand...

(For waxing, non-abrasive products they should work fine fr you for now).

So what you and Mike are saying is the pockets hold the product and if using light pressure, the abrasives wont diminish. What if i push down harder to try to force the product down. Will the DA stop spinning?

I guess i just gotta do some trial and error to see what works.

If i dont like them, maybe i can just cut the pads to make it flat lol

                          Thanks man

                            Basically, yes. It's possible.

You have to find the magic spot where you get maximum pressure without losing rotation. However, depending on the density of the foam (orange and yellow CCs come to mind) even then you may not be pushing hard enough. They have DENSE foam. *Also, another problem is that on some paints or situations using max pressure is not what you want...so again, it creates problems.

Pretty much. It's just something to be aware of. To me, time is incredibly precious during details as I often take 8-12 hours for paint corrections and I can not afford to add in extra variables to cause problems and hinder my progress. Thus, I use the appropriate pad with the appropriate product for the appropriate job.

You will have to play with it yourself and come to your own conclusions.

Lol, not so sure that would work...at that point you may just want to get some of the proper pads

That's the pad. Where the cut is made in the pad foam near the edges the pads seem to begin to tear for me at least on my Makita 9227. I don't seem to have that issue with my PC though.
