  • Need advise, I'm a newbie in car detailing

Hi, this is my first post, I'm writing from Monterrey, Mexico.

I need an advise, I own a 2003 Opel Astra G, I have it for a year now, I only waxed it once back in December.

I travelled to Houston last summer, and noticed your products on an Autozone shop. And also on a magazine.

I visited Meguiars site, and tried to learn more about your products and the 5 steps system, described in the video clinics, then I've spent most of today, reading and admiring the amazing things Meguiars products can do.

I also took your free Car Care RX, and it recommended the next products:

Wash: Gold Class Wash Shampoo & Conditioner
Surface Prep: Scratch X, because my car has some little scratches, and it is outside all day.
    Polishi: Deep Crystal Polish
Protect: Gold Class Clear Coat Car Wax
    Maintain: Quik Detailer.

Ok, here is where I have questions, Scratch X, should I use it only in the scratch area, or in the whole car?
Gold Class Car Wax, I've been watching the amazing results with the NXT Tech Wax, Should I use it instead?
Quick Detailer, as I mentioned above, my car is outside 24/7, how should I use quick detailer? or use another product instead?

Oh, I almost forget, I'm applying everything, by hand, I don't have an Electric Polisher

And finally, those of you that doesn't know how does an Opel Astra G looks like, here it is (it's no mine, but is the same paint color and the same car )

    Thank you

    Hi Joaquin,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

ScratchX can be used over the entire car. ScratchX is a paint cleaner that remove oxidation, swirls, scratches, built-up road grime, etc. If you read the back of the label under the directions, it says it can be used for small areas, or over the entire car.

If you already own Gold Class Wax, you might as well use it up. After it's gone, try the new Tech Wax, it's our newest wax and offers longer and better protection, plus it has the ability to eliminate fine swirls and scratches.

Quick Detailer, as I mentioned above, my car is outside 24/7, how should I use quick detailer? or use another product instead?
Quik Detailer is for light dust, finger prints and fresh contaminants. If your car sits outside 24/7, if you use Quik Detailer daily, then your okay, but after a couple of days go by, there will probably be enough accumulated dust and other airborne contaminants that it would be better to wash the car. Let common sense be your guide.

You can achieve stellar results when working by hand if you take your time and use good technique. Here's a how-to article on using ScratchX for serious defects,

How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

For light cleaning, just apply one application of ScratchX to the entire car being sure to work it in well. Apply to small section at a time, then remove it and move on to another section. Be sure to overlap into the previous section for uniform cleaning results.

    Hope this helps...

Thank you Mike, I think I'll use Scratch X, on the entire car, I want my car to look awesome . About Gold Class Wax, I don't own, I have Deep Crystal, but is almost gone, I'll buy NXT Tech Wax, and give it a try.
I think I'll do an "Extreme Makeover" thread, when I'm done.

      Thanks again Mike
