  • Gday Wilco Re Megs Insane Tyre Shine

    Gday from Australia

I have a question for those who use insane tyre shine
I got new tyres and they were fresh rubber side walls which is great, the smell of new rubber is awesome. I hadnt placed any shine at all since they dont go brown after consistently using meg's non acid wheel and tyre cleaner almost everytime i wash my car.

However, on this one week the forecast was sunny all 7days, so i decided to pull out insane shine after i cleaned my wheels.

Dont get me wrong, the shine was BRILLIANT. i never knew insane shine protects sooooo well until it water beads like crazy (not to mention the shine is like mirror!), however, its been 4weeks since i applied insane shine, and every week i clean my wheels and tyres there seems to be a strong black residue on the cloth, and on my hands.

Although the tyres have remained black, the rubber surface is greasy and covered in that thick black residue. An attempt to clean and remove it will only get my hands covered in the thickness of the residue, and by the way, it takes me 15mins to remove the residue off my hands, scrubing hard with strong detergent.

Ive used alot of tyre shines, but id have to say this is by far the toughest to clean. I have to scrap the tyre wall inorder to get rid of the residue, for the tyre to have rubber once again, and not grease black thickness...stuff.

Any ideas Mike? My brake pads have always been the same, and the dust that it admits is not strong like those on euro cars. I just want my tyre to be fresh and clean like it was when i got them.

Thanks in advance, bet you never thought a simply concept can be so difficult, but im passionate, and car crazy!

    Wilco

Sounds like you may have used too much product in the first place. "I have to scrap the tyre wall inorder to get rid of the residue" - Wilco

I literally make 1-3 short sprays spread for the entire sidewall of an average sized tire. You should work to spread it as thinly as possible. It will still shine brilliantly, just avoid slinging and making dust stick to it.

Secondly, I suggest getting some nitrile or rubber gloves when working on the wheels and tires so you don't have to fuss with washing your hands. It's a big time saver!

Also, unless you specifically get new mud or dirt on the tires you shouldn't need to CLEAN your tires very often at all- especially not weekly. I maybe only "clean" my tires once every 6 months or so on a street car, maybe once a month if you drive dirt roads often.

    Hope this helps some!

nice one mark. speaking of the devil, i was sick and tired of the black **** so im all dressed and going to head out now to get some nxt2.0 and some gloves!

nah i need to clean it weekly cuz i like the shine my wheels give off. their a clear coat based, and when it rains, its bordering of monsoon, and the rain water is very very....dirty. so usually after 1.5weeks of that the wheel is grey, and as a thick cover over the wheels. tyres here get brown after 2weeks and by 1mth their heavily light brown, which is not good. ive found that on most cars here regardless of what tyres u have...so annoying.

re the application. im a real conservatist when it comes to application. megs products are expensive in aust so trust me on applying a thin coat. ive seen insane shine go for as much as $27AUD a bottle at a major retailer, so...yea....

        Yikes!
I personally love the look of Hyper Dressing on my tires, but I wonder if "All Season Dressing" from the Detailer line by Meguiar's would be best for you? Can you get that there?

Re: Gday Wilco Re Megs Insane Tyre Shine

I use the insane shine all the time. To clean the tires when I wash the car, I use some All Purpose Cleaner. (apc). This combined with a good tire brush and the residue from the insane shine is a thing of the past. I use it at the 10:1 dilution.
