  • Anyone having trouble removing NXT wax???

    Hello all,

I've used NXT wax a couple times now on my new black Nissan Frontier and I like the results but:

I wonder if I'm using too much wax. I use about 1/2 bottle for the whole truck and it seems to take forever to remove and I go through about 20 rags to remove it all and it still seems "greasy" on the finish.

Am I simply using too much or am I not letting the wax dry long enough? I let it dry for about 15-20 minutes.

I did a search but I don't see anyone complaining about having difficulty removiing the wax. Just the opposite.

    Thanks so much.

1/2 a bottle is way to much. I can get maybe 15 applications on a 2500 truck with a cap on it. I would suggest cutting way back. when you apply it, it should only look like a thin film of oil to start with. hope this helps.
by the way to the group.

It sounds like you are using way too much product. You should be able to do your Nissan Frontier at least five or six times using the same bottle.

If you are applying the NXT by hand, it is a good idea to simply add a small amount of the product onto your applicator cloth rather than squirt it on the vehicle. That is a very good way to control the amount of product being used.

Like everybody else said, you're definitely using way toooooo much wax.. I only place a dot as small as a penny when I apply the NXT wax by hand and I could do the whole hood on it.. Apply only a very very thin coat (seems like almost nothing) and trust me, you'll have the same results.. My uncle applied Gold Class wax before like crazy and we had a really hard time removing it.. Hope that helps.

          Add me to the chorus.

NXT Tech Wax is a Last Step Product (LSP) and as such you need to apply it as a very thin coating. Hardly visible. Work it enough to provide a uniformly thin coat. Less is better. I get around 20 applications per bottle.

It seems like this is one of the most common user errors--using too much product. I can remember 20 years ago putting a real thick coat of #16 on my car, and it was getting dark, so I decided to buff it off the next day at work at lunchtime...during the summer...in the sun...it was like trying to buff the paint off!

Anyway, I think Mike Phillips had a good analogy that maybe someone can find, something about after you buff there will only be microns of wax left on the surface, you're going to have 10 times that thickness before you buff, even with a thin application, what's the sense of putting 100 times the thickness on? Sorry for the bad paraphrasing, Mike.

Once in a while this comes up on other forums, so when I have a clinic here at Meguiar's, I try to find someone to remove the wax other than myself, or someone that is experienced in detailing cars to show how easy it is.

Last weekend, at the Europrojektz at Meguiar's!, one of they young club members brought his girlfriend to the clinic. So after the tech wax had been allowed to dry for about 15 we asked her to wipe it off.

As she was wiping it off, I asked her to tell the guys if she thought it was easy, or hard to remove and she said, "Very easy".

The finish on this BMW was horrific to start with, as such we clayed it, cleaned it with ScratchX, polished it with Deep Crystal Polish and then applied one thin coat of Tech Wax.

So chances are, you applied too much product. Try applying a nice, even thin coating next time, and then after 10-15 minutes, remove this coating using your softest microfiber polishing cloth.

Gook luck and keep us posted...

Wow...cut back on how much you use. I have noticed that if you put NXT on a warm surface it can be a bear to remove also. So, I would keep it in the shade and make sure the surface isn't hot to the touch first.
