Re: Is there a Meguiar's "equivalent" to Turtle Wax Ice Synthetic Liquid Polish

I usually stay within the Meguiors line and typically dislike TW products. However, in my opinion, I think that the ICE line is pretty good OTC product. This thread also is proof positive that honest discussions (even of non-Meguiars) of products is welcomed. As stated before, I have had excellent results with Meguiars products, but I do like to experiment. (i.e. Stoner for glass, Klasse AIO for a cleaner wax, ICE, etc).

Meguiars is also my favorite. I also have not been a fan of TW's waxes. After reading about Ice, I bought some. I've been using it on plastic trim and hard-to-wax areas (door jambs, underside of trunk lids, under the hood) where getting residue off can be difficult. It works pretty well for that. I don't think i would make it my main wax though. I like NXTv2 too much right now.

The car did in indeed die before I found the right product. I replaced it with another vehicle with even more trim/cladding, so my quest continues...

Re: Is there a Meguiar's "equivalent" to Turtle Wax Ice Synthetic Liquid Polish

Hope i am not off topic and i am not wanna complaint about ICE product but i just want to have some review about this product - all based on my personal experience.

Upon going through the video of Turtle ICE Polish (Wax), I managed to get some sample product from my friend (which i asked her to buy last time so she could test and review since the demo tape in Eneos says kt a easy on and off product.

Her comment was the product its was easy to apply and remove ( i would pressume she did according the what the clip said / instruction on bottle said. Btw, she drop a silver Kelisa

So this morning around 9am, i woke up and did a quick wash to the carusing CG Citrus Wash + Gloss  .

Around 10am i start applying Turtle ICE on the whole car surface (bear in mind sunlight already direct hitted on me and the paint surface)...

Like the video said, i haze the paintwork using MG applicator pad, i also apply on rubber of the car...what suprise me was my applicator slowly picking up all the dirt from the paint surface (the car been applied with 1000P around 10 days ago and it was park outdoor all time) only 2-3 days go i wash it once and apply with M135 only

So i end up turning the yellow applicator into a black (dirt) applicator pad  , as i going thru the application, some hidding area which still have water from the car wash once contacted with water it turn into bubble (the product i mean)...

FEELING of putting ICE is like applying ALL SEASON DRESSING through the car (no joke though), my applicator pad was SO OILY. I am suspecting this product seem carry heavy silicone (thats why it claimed NO white residue compare to conventional wax ?)

Now come to the BUFFING part :x as it CLAIMED, you can even apply in on a HOT surface (as the sunlight getting hotter and hotter - my paint surface is barely can touch by hand (maybe also due to dark colour absorb heat faster ?)

Upon FIRST round of buffing, my microfibre cloth AGAIN turn into dark as its picking up ALL THE DIRTY...and i found that almost EACH panel have STREAKING marks !! :x. I tot of washing the microfibre into bucket of plain water but sadly its like my microfibre been mist with ALL SEASON DREASSING (silicone - oily).. sigh

I have no choice, so i just use the damped microfibre do a wipe again of the entired car and the streaking is getting lighter and lighter..now i think still about 5-10% streaking mark left.

          PERSONAL OPINION
If i am correct where this product carry heavy silicone or waxing/polishing oil in it (whatever oil you call that), YES its DARKENING the paint colour BUT same time won't it COOK the paint more as the tempreature keep raising ? Comparing other wetlook wax like M16, M26, 1000P YET the also carry waxing oil BUT the DO NOT give u a OILY applicator nor buffing microfibre.

So HOW DURABLE is this product ?? My friend said its quite lasting..but I am going to do a close monitoring and update everyone.

Anyway, here's some photo of the car after contacted with drizzling in the afternoon.

I hate to show my ignorance, but what is "cladding"?

I assuming he was referring to the plastic on the lower half of the vehicle (i.e. Pontiac Vibe/Chevy Avalanche etc that is covered in cladding at the lower half of the body panels)

I wouldn't trust anything that says: "can use in direct sunlight". You don't know what temp it was when they "tested" it in direct sunlight. That's just plain baloney. If it's quality your looking for then use it and compare it to others you like. But IMO it's just marketing mumbo jumbo.

                  @MaseratiMario:
Not to sound like a fanboy of the product, but I tested it on a 2007 Odyssey (direct sun)in July (approx temp 90 degrees) and it applied and removed fine. I still would prefer to detail on a cooler surface, but the product did perform well in that environment. I do not think that it would replace NXT or other Meguiars wax for a true detail, but as an "in-between" wax that goes on as quickly as UQD, it's not bad. It serves its purpose well for its target demographic, whereas we generally like to detail in a true multi-step process.

That's kewl. I did say try it out and see what you think.
Personally I like there ads and the stuff looks like it works, but every year you have a multitude of products (not just detailing products) that make the claim to be the "best" at what ever and I don't buy into any hype.
I just don't like "the best" anything because it's all perspective.

Agreed. I usually have a healthy skepitism about such claims and more often than not proven right. However, admittedly I like to experiment and try new products. I always try on my daily driver before any other vehicle. Nice BiTurbo in your avatar BTW

I tried ice when it first came out,I thought it was pretty easy to use. It says you can use it on trim (black or gray )which it I did,boy it sure did look good,I thought I found some pretty good stuff until I went back 6 months later to a customers house to detail there Volvo Sport wagon again. All the gray and black trim I put the ice on had a white cloudy hase on it ,I'm sure it was caused by the ice so,I used some APC on a microfiber towel to remove it. used some trim dressing and it sure looked alot better,So don,t use it on those black plastic mirrors or the gray plastic trim. So back to tech wax I went.

I'm amazed at all the favorable comment on ICE
ICE reminds me of smearing baby oil on your paint

This stuff looked best right were I put mine. That is in the trash can

While I like and use Meguiars I use a lot of products other than Meguiars and I could name a whole lot of LSP that will outperform ICE
