Is it bad to use 2 Quick Detailers?

Before I place an order for a bunch of new Meguiar's stuff and restock of supply, I had a question.

I primarily use UQD or #135.

However, what if I want to try using Last Touch sometimes? It is bad to go back and forth with a quick detailer like that on the same paint? One day use UQD, two days later use Last Touch. Should you not do that?

I know Mike says stick with one maintenance product, so perhaps this would be bad?

It's perfectly fine to do. I like playing with different products. UQD gives me a nice look but Last Touch is cheaper.

You can go back and forth, though you would only get the protection from UQD/135.

And UQD/135 is not for claying, so you still need 2 kinds.

Yep, I never use UQD for claying.

I guess I was just wanting to use Last Touch sometimes because it is cheaper, but also because of the feel it reportedly gives to the paint.

Besides being expensive for a clay lube, I would guess it is not recommended because the polymer ingredients would affect claying.

There shouldn't be any problems with using different Meguiar's mist and wipe products. UQD, M135 and Last Touch are all top shelf quick detailers and in most cases you would pick the one you like the most and stick with it.

Not sure I've ever posted that as we don't recommend using UQD or M135 for claying, this means if you want to use UQD or M135 for your finishing and maintenance QD, you'll still need a QD like Quik Detailer for claying or Last Touch diluted 1:1 with water for claying.

I am in the same thinking as Scott. I like using them both. Like trying out new product. Just make sure you get enough spray bottles. Mark them good. Enjoy.

Hi Mike, but what about switching between them more often than just when I clay?

See, I'm like the others guys too. I just love your stuff so much. I hate to use the same product every single day, do you know what I mean, so if I use Last Touch some days, and UQD other days, it isn't really an issue, or should I not do that?

Well, I went ahead and ordered up some Last Touch. I Just have to try it even though I love UQD and QD, I think I'll find a place for Last Touch even if I only use it on my old car or something, it will save money on that one. I hope I like it. Fingers crossed.

Question on Last Touch. I've read Meguiar's say to use it full strength, when using as a Quick Detailer, but some of you dilute. I wonder what I should try first? Probably full strength and then see if I like it as much diluted?

I'll go get some distilled water. That is what you should use with this as well as glass cleaner, to dilute, correct?

Depends upon how far down you want to drill... by that I mean how AR or "Detail Oriented" do you want to get?

Rubbing any kind of liquid/creamy substance over an automotive paint with a microscopic layer of wax or some kind of paint sealant will act to remove it... not increase it...

Procedures like claying and even washing a car acts to remove a layer of wax, not add to it. Also, protective coatings wear off as a normal reaction to wear and tear over time.

So a layer of wax or a paint sealant is usually wearing off over time, not staying the same as when you first applied it.

UQD and M135 provide our new Hydrophobic Polymer Technology, this would be a microscopic thin coating on the surface of the paint.

It's completely possible that just the act of wiping a different liquid like Last Touch over the surface will act to remove portions of this coating.

Think in extremes...

Will applying Last Touch add to the Hydrophobic Polymer Coating?

If your answer is "No", then what's the opposite or extreme of adding?


We can drill down or get as D.O. as you want, at some point just choose the product you want to use and go out into your garage an use it. Monitor your results and try to find a combination of products that makes you the happiest and go with it!

The dilution is to make the product less slick... it actualy lubricates the surface and the contaminants too much to be picked up by the clay.

I don't mind to use the Hydrophobic on the days I want to try out Last Touch, since I never see any rain essentially. I'm sure for my new car I'll go back to UQD regularly, but again, I just want to be able to try it without worry. Sounds like I can.

FWIW, I personally use Last Touch very often as my go-to for removing above surface light contamination (heavy dust, bird droppings, random "stuff" like pollen, etc) and then immediately follow the Last Touch up with UQD or #135 to seal the paint with the hydrophobic polymers.

I personally feel safer using LT to remove stuff, and UQD to ADD shine and protection.
