  • UQD before waxing?

Hey guys, the area I wash my car in gets a lot of dust (no other option) and by the time I'm done washing it usually has a little dust on it, and of course a couple missed water spots where I didn't dry, is it OK to use UQD before waxing with NXT2.0, or will that somehow cause a conflict between the products.

Also, I've found that when using NXT 2.0 sometimes, when I go to wipe it off it will streak. Is this because I've waited too long or used too much product.

    Thanks

No problem using UQD before applying any wax. Kind of the expensive option considering you could get a bottle of Quik Detailer and use it to remove light dust and safe the UQD for Date Night.

As for streaks or smears, focus on applying a very thin coat, allow it to fully dry and the wipe off using a clean microfiber. If you do see a streak the mist on some UQD and wipe softly. It wont' hurt anything, it's just product that's not removed.

alright thanks man I'll give that a try. It was strange though, when I first started I think I applied way too thick of a coat or something, cause I did try and use UQD to get rid of the streaking, but it just moved the streaks around lol. Was that cause of way too much wax?

        Could be.

First: Always have your microfiber folded 4 ways, this gives you 8 sections to wipe with and creates a thicker polishing cloth that will help to spread out the pressure of your hand and fingers. Don't be one of these guys that lay their microfiber out flat or crumple it up. Bad technique.

Next, try misting UQD to a small area and then spread the product around with one side of a microfiber. This would be about 12 to 16" in size, most people try to wipe down half the hood at one time, again this is bad technique.

After spreading the product out, turn your microfiber over to the dry side and buff that area to a dry shine.

Repeat this to the next section and overlap jut a little into the previous section.

Also work on a cool surface in the shade.

I personally found after a little testing that UQD will smear (and become noticeable as dew forms) when you over apply the product. This is a good thing! This means you can save your money and product by stretching it further

I would say I can do my entire hood with 2, to 3 spurts of UQD tops. I probably do my entire focus with 10 sprays total.

Just try and make an effort to spread it out quickly and evenly, and then go back with a dry side of the towel for the final pass.

Very interesting. Seems like this could be something I've done wrong in the past. I drench (or close to it) the area in UQD because I'm scared of scratching the car. However, I'd sometimes see weird streaks or smudging while I was detailing the car with UQD (sometimes not even want to come out). I even created a post about it.

Sounds like I need to use less UQD!

            Thanks!

Well, you bring up a good point- what does the paint have on it at the time of UQD application?

Personally, if there is anything more than 1-2 days of light dust I would first go over the vehicle with a liberal application of Last Touch undiluted. Last Touch has a higher lubricity and IMO is safer for cleaning the surface.

Then I follow up with UQD for the extra pop and protection.

Does the Last Touch(undiluted) and #34 - Final Inspection has same amount in terms of lubricity? Cause Im thinking of the same way as you did. Im thinking of buying Final Inspection for quick detailing. I will use this to quick detail my car then follow up by UQD for low chance of scratching the paint....

This is a good idea I think. Only problem, when the weather's bad, it's more time outside for me. ha-ha.

Honestly, I can't answer that for you as I have yet to try #34. I have used normal Quik Detailer, NXT Speed Detailer, Last Touch, and UQD. So my first hand experience won't allow me to answer that for sure, BUT I am pretty sure Mike Phillips posted recently that Last Touch is the highest in lubricity (not sure if he considered #34 though)
