  • Another NXT fan

Just wanted to share a pic of my 2000 Monte Carlo LS after its first coat of NXT Tech Wax. My process was:

    GC Wash
    Deep Crystal Polish
    NXT

Didn't even clay it this time. This is good stuff. Like I have heard some say on other forums, even if the durability isn't quite what others claim, most of us wax our cars more often than that anyway. This was my first coat so I will be checking the durability claims out....that is if I can keep from waxing it again, and again, and again.....

Yes, like all of you....my neighbors think I'm crazy. Was out at 10 P.M. with NXT Spray Wax touching up last night. They can mock, but their cars look like **** too.

    Hope you enjoy the pic.

Thanks for the welcome. I just bought the car in June. I have loved Montes since 1985 and finally own my first. And it seems a little extra cool in black. The NXT really does bring the color out. This pic doesn't do the color depth justice. It looks like a mirror as far as shine and gloss. I have some close up pics of a door and of the hood that are pretty incredible as far as clarity goes.

I haven't used any clay on it yet. I am curious what kind of improvement that will make when I use it. I am new to "real" detailing so I have a lot to learn here.

You may or may not notice any improvement (as your work looks VERY nice) but, odds are, you'll feel a difference. Let me explain...

Clay works to remove surficial contamination that is stuck to your paint. Typically, an average car shampooing will not remove many of these contaminants (ie: rail dust, some water spots, some tar, some paint, etc...).

Here's the way you can test it out... Take a clean, dry, non-scratchy finger or three and run it across your hood. If you feel 'bumps' along the way or a series of 'spots' that, when looked at very closely, resemble something sitting on top of your paint immediately after you've washed, clay may be for you. On the other hand, if your paint feels like glass, clay probably won't do you much good.

Where clay will help is in the surface preparation. This surface prep will help to clarify the optical resolution of your paint. Again though, you may or may not notice any difference.

Feel free to ask additional questions about clay and/or any other aspect of detailing as there is a wealth of information on our boards from a wealth of very knowledgeable folks. I know everyone will be glad to help.

Great looking Monte by the way! Excellent job!

                Rockpick,

That's what I thought on the claying. I don't feel anything but slick paint. That is, exept on the hood. The hood has taken a beating as a daily driver. I have gotten some rock pecks from somewhere that I don't remember getting. In the hood pic in my gallery, you can see some of them in the pic.

Otherwise, it is in good shape. The lady who had it before me took VERY good care of it. The interior has a couple of minor defects but is basically like a brand new one. I owe much of my success in keeping it up to her.

                Thanks for the info.

                  Sure. No problem!

As it sounds, you probably don't have the need for a full clay application as it'll do nothing for the rock chips and such. Just keep an eye (or finger) on it and take note when it starts to feel rough. Then it may be time to give it a whirl.

Also, please note, that you will need to reapply your NXT post-clay to ensure uniform coverage and the utmost in protection!

Again, great job on the MC! Isn't it great to be dubbed the neighborhood weird-o for detailing at all hours in all weather conditions? Trust me, you're among friends (and fellow weird-o's).

Hi guys, I bought my bottle of NXT wax on friday. Did my friend's car with the following steps:

                    NXT wash
                    Clay
                    Bug and tar remover
                    DCS1 Paint Cleaner
                    Show car glaze
                    NXT wax
                    Hi tech yellow wax
                    Natural vinyl and rubber

Would have loved to use a rotary or orbital with something mroe aggresive to replace paint cleaner step. But couldn't afford one of these machines yet. :P

All said, the nxt wax is really wonderful. It left a layer so slick and wet looking. It made the paint look deeper too. It really impressed me with its ease of removal. I tend to take instructions at the back of bottles with a pinch of salt. But Nxt Wax instructions we true to their words. It was the easiest off wax I have ever used.

Now the next thing to do would be to see how long it lasts with minimal care. This is because my friend hardly ever washes his car. And with me being in the equatorial with high heat and humidity and loads of dust, it will be interesting to see how NXT will perform.

It was worth the 80 ringgit I spent. FYI, 1 USD = 3.8 ringgit. Although I earn 3K ringgit as an engineer. But I have to pay 80 ringgit for a bottle of great wax. You guys are so lucky. Hehe.
