  • NXT 2.0 unbuffed now has dried morning dew on it

Hey guys, last night I applied a pretty generous coat of NXT 2.0 but I didn't have enough time to buff it off before evening and this morning the car is covered in dew, and I won't be able to get back to it until this afternoon.

Could I damage the paint if I were to simply go back and buff it off, since the dew will have dried onto the unbuffed wax at that point.

ive never heard of that happening before, i guess there's not a whole lot you can do now, you'll just have to buff it off, and hope nothings wrong

      Morning,

You really have little choice now but to remove it. I fear that with dew comes "heavy dust" which may now be on the top of the wax residue. Perhaps use a spray detailer like Meguiar's Quik Detailer and mist an area so that it will help soften the residue, thereby reducing the amount of pressure exerted on the paint during the residue removal process. Then use very light pressure to remove the product.

For the future, Meguiar's recommends using a VERY thin coat of product as this will make removal easier and will prevent waste of product. Also, it is recommended that the residue should be wiped off after ~ 15 minutes or after performing the Swipe Test.

Finally, please do not double or triple post. I have removed your other 2 posts so that people can reply to one post.

I agree with Tim, there's really nothing you can do outside of wiping what's on there off and in the future avoid doing this again.

Chances are if you do a careful job of wiping the product your car's paint will be okay, the risk factor is if any dirt is in the wax layer that when you wipe it off you'll grind the dirt into the paint and scratch it.

So be VERY careful wiping the wax off, use plenty of microfibers versus trying to do the job with one or two.

        Best of luck to you....

Also, Mike and others here have often told us to use a "thin" coat of wax. If you do that, you won't need more than 30 minutes to remove it.

I would wash the car again like normal and then use quik detailer to dry the car and then check the surface for caked on wax and remove any with quik detailer and then put another coat of NXT on.....

Wouldn't the safest thing be to wash the car? Forget about saving the wax job and get the wax and dirt off by washing ... or am I missing something?

I'd wash too. The wax should have cured by now and just the excess is left of the surface, so it shouldn't compromise the wax anyways. Plus, you can always put another coat on real quick just to make sure all the paint is evenly covered.

Well I managed to buff some of it off last night, only a couple panels though as I had to take extra long time cause the coat was too thick and if I didn't buff it off inch by inch with a fresh unused portion of an MF, it would leave streaks and shadowy marks in the wax (I assume this is from too much wax?)

The only thing is most of the car didn't get buffed out, and it rained this morning . I think I'm just going to wash it now with the meguiars gold car wash, should that do the job of getting rid of the excess, or will I need to use dish detergent. I don't want to get rid of the wax job if it's already cured, I just want to get off the excess and hopefully still be able to buff it clean & shiny with the QD after washing it down, is that still possible at this point.

                  God I'm a noob.

A person could try to wash off the wax but car wax by it's very nature and NXT Tech Wax specifically is designed to not be washed off with water and soap so it might be difficult or goopy?

                    A person could try though....

It's not often recommended for obvious reasons (and I don't personally use this method either) but perhaps this is the one and only time to use dawn? Maybe mix it half and half with car wash shampoo for lubricity? Just a thought...

Well I know I'll regret telling you guys this...but my brother did this exact same thing. The only way I found to remove it safely was to wash very, very carefully with Gold Class and uses LOTS of water. Luckily he applied a thin layer, so it wasn't terrible but still bad.

Yesterday I managed to get all the unbuffed off using a light solution of palmolive dish soap (not detergent), then it started raining again so I went back after the rain stopped and went over it again with gold car wash.

Right now theres a filmy coating of what seems to be dried wax in numerous spots all over the car. It looks terrible, but I tried some QD on a spot and that seemed to take care of it. Didn't have time to QD the whole thing though. Prolly will try that later today (after washing again due to dew and dust), then possible put on a proper layer of wax this weekend.

Try mixing a bottle of alcohol 50/50 with distilled or filtered water. That will take care of stubborn spots.
