  • Want to add second wax, before or after?

    So right now I use:

Cleaner (Scratch X or Deep Crystal Cleaner)
    Polish (#7 Show Car)
    2 Coats of NXT 2.0

I want to add Gold Class Paste Waste to my regimen. Unless this is a bad idea. Reason being is I always liked applying pastes for some reason, and I really want to use a second wax/sealant.

Question though: Should I add it before or after the NXT 2.0?

Finally, I keep flipping between scratch x and deep crystal as my cleaner. Is there a reason I should stick with one or the other? Thanks.

My suggestion would be to pick up some NXT 2.0 paste.

Re: Want to add second wax, before or after?

Meguiar's doesn't recommend topping one kind of wax with a different kind of wax although a lot of people like to do this, as such there's an article in the How To Articles forum that addresses this...

Topping NXT aka "How to top one type of wax with a different type of wax

As for paint cleaners, ScratchX is a tad stronger than the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner and will probably work better by hand for removing isolated defects out of the paint.

For a general light cleaning Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner works very well, just keep in mind you apply it to a section at at time, work it over the paint really well and then wipe of any excess and move on repeating this until you cleaned all the paint on the car.

Re: Want to add second wax, before or after?

        Thank you Mike.

I went ahead and bought Gold Paste today, and put it over 1/2 the areas where I had just done: Scratch X, #7, and NXT 2.0 (twice) a couple hours earlier.

I quizzed myself and two other people and none of us could tell which side of the back end had the extra step. They claimed they could tell after I said which one had the extra work, but obviously that is not fair at that point.

I went ahead and did the rest of the surface and afterwards it sure looked good, but I guess it might be in my head since the test didn't say that.

However, the test did show this: it feels better on the back of your hand with the extra gold class paste on top.

Overall, I guess when I have time from now on, I might put the gold paste on top of NXT 2.0. It certainly doesn't look worst, and who knows, maybe it looks a tiny bit better, feels better.

After your top coat sets up for a while, mist on some UQD and you'll like the look and feel even better.

Re: Want to add second wax, before or after?

I hate to go back to my old post here, but I have another question:

I have found I like putting Gold Class over NXT 2.0 after all.

However, question: Am I removing all of the NXT, when I do this?

So in particular I'm wondering if the properties of Gold Class would take off NXT, or if it is layering as I hope?

No one has ever proved layering works and Meguiar's doesn't teach this or create products and claim they will do this.

We teach that the surface of your car's paint will only hold so much wax, after you reach this limit or plateau all you're doing is applying and wiping off product.

You can create a uniform coating, but you cannot add more and more product and result in creating a thicker and thicker layer of wax on the paint.

Also, any product that can do this needs to be as clear as water because if it's not as clear as water then the more you build up on the surface, (assuming you're "layering"), the less you'll be able to see the true color of the paint because the product your building up on the surface will be hiding it.

                Make sense?

                  Yes, Sir. Thank you.

I'd still be curious, if Gold Class would be particularly likely to take off the NXT, but I understand otherwise completely that I'm probably not getting benefit.

I do see a change when I put the GC on top I think ,but what I don't know is if some of the GC is being added to the surface, or if the NXT is just being removed and being replace with GC.

I mean I don't try to put hundreds of layers, just 1-2 coats of NXT, and then 1 of GC or something else, but I still see that that may be too much from the information you provided.

                  Thanks.

Probably a little bit of both...

If you take a car coated with a coating of wax, (anyone's wax), and you take a wet rag and rub on the paint, are you adding more wax or removing wax?

If you say "removing", what's doing the removing?

                    Water?
The rag being rubbed against the paint?
                    Both?

If you take a wax product and rub it over another wax product will one remove the other and if it will is it the product abrading or dissolving the previously applied product or is it just the action or friction of one product being rubbed against the other product?

How about picking on product, applying a thin coating and letting it dry. Do a great job of applying the product as in be thorough in your application.

After you wipe it off... stand back and enjoy the results!

Now put into practice a "Maintenance Plan", that is wash and wax your car often enough to insure thew's always some wax protection on the paint, don't let the car go so long that the finish starts going down hill and needs correction work again.

I just use whatever mood I'm in. GC wax looks great on the Yukon while NXT looks awesome on the Neon, I got M16 for my boy's '66 Dodge p/u once we get it refreshed (soon I hope, been working so much OT for kid's clothes and um...Meguiar's products).
