  • Can someone recommend a complete system for me?

Hey everybody. 2003 pearl white Hyundai Sonata. It's basically a beautiful Jaguar for someone with a Hyundai budget.

I would like some people to recommend a complete line for washing/waxing/detailing. I'd been using Meguiar's cleaner wax for a long time, and with good results. But looking around here, I feel like there's so much excitement about any wax but that one. I once tried Gold Class and didn't like the feel afterwards. Then I was told on here that I needed a cleaner wax before the Gold Class. I really don't have the time or energy for using two waxes one after the other. Especially after how long it takes me to wash the car - I get everything. Add on the detailing afterwards and it's an all day affair.

I want something that looks amazing, shiny, clean, and also feels like the cleaner wax - silky smooth. Should I just stick with cleaner wax?

And what's the difference between the consumer and professional line? Hey, I'm all for paying more money for results. I'm not limited to the consumer line if there's a difference. Basically, there's too many products out there.

Right now, I just use gold class car wash, followed by the cleaner wax if I have the energy. I use Armorall for the black plastic trim on the outside windows and I think it makes the sun fading look worse. I have to go over it just so, like on the 50th stroke to make it look right. It's weird. I'm also not even sure if the armorall is even good for my dash or not.

I used Plastx on my headlights to remove any scratches (I did the step by step I found on this forum). I took out all the scratches completely, but I kind of feel like it lost it's shiny wet vibrant clearness to it. It's not scratched or anything, but the clear plastic no longer looks vibrant. Did I scuff out some beautified layer or something?

And finally, I bought ScratchX. Honestly I don't even know what it's for. Either my scratches seem to go away with cleaner wax, or they don't.

What am I missing? Is there anything I'm missing by just using the cleaner wax once in a while? I want my car to look brand new. Like I said, it's a Hyundai, but when people see it they say nice car. Example: I work in the high end A/V installation business. I was at a mansion of one of our client's homes. These mansions always have workers on site doing this or that -it's absolutely insane. When I was pulling out, I had to have a few service men move out of the circular drive way for me to leave, they all waved and smiled at me - thinking I lived there!

I bought some clay but never got around to using it. I left it at my moms house when I moved from AZ to CT. I miss AZ. I'm scared I'm going to get rust out here.

I'm a big Megs fan, I trust this brand more than anything I find on the shelf. I just want to re-access what I'm doing. If anyone wants to recommend a step by step product process, I'm all for it.

The question is, how much time do you want to spend cleaning your car? If you want something silky smooth that doesn't take a ton of time, purchase a clay kit and a bottle of NXT2. Wash the car, clay it, then apply the NXT. Your car will feel VERY smooth after doing these steps.

If you want to take a lot of time, you can clay the paint, then use the Deep Crystal system Paint Cleaner and Deep Crystal system Polish. Then you would still want to put a coat of wax/sealant over that.

There are a lot of things you can do. Id suggest trying the clay and NXT2 first and see how you like it. It will not remove scratches and swirls but it will make your paint feel very smooth.
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

So if I had the time and energy, the best route would be to wash, clay, DC paint cleaner, DC polish, followed with NXT2 wax- correct?

And then in between just wash and wax with NXT2?

PS: Thanks for your thoughts, and I apologize about the long winded original message.

Re: Can someone recommend a complete system for me?

most of the professional line is more agressive and more involved so to speak. There is ultra cut compounds for heavy swirls scratchs and oxidation and there are odor eliminators and polishes everything for all sides of detailing. Yes your getting great products for the money but, it all depends on what your looking to do with your vehicle. I know that I dont own a bottle of everything I only own what I need and what Im looking to do with a car/truck/SUV so it depends on you and your goals.

If your looking for a smooth car and that its with no involvment then wash, clay, wax with NXT 2.0 you will like the results but you will be left with the scratchs and swirls. You could do the 3 step process with is Paint cleaner polish and wax but that will need to be more involved. Its all in what you want.

As the others have stated it all depends on the result you are looking for, and how much time you are willing to invest. To me it alraeady sounds like you have the detailing bug. It is an addiction that begins with the things you are doing right now. You will see.

Anyway, here are some threads to check out and if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.

Re: Can someone recommend a complete system for me?

You guys are fantastic. Thank you so much. I am obsessed with my car. With all the time and energy I've spent on appearance/detailing, and installation of car audio, I'm actually freaked out about what if anything is wrong underneath the car. You ever drive down a slant and hear scraping under your car? I parked on a curb on the side of a freeway and heard it scrape under my car and I freaked out.

I take my car in for maintenance, but am at their mercy. I know nothing about cars. I wish I did, but I grew up without a dad, own no tools, and basically my car's fate is up to mechanics - I hate that. I was just noticing in my owners manual, something called a fuel filter needs to be replaced every so often. I looked through my records and it wasn't done on a 30K or 60K tune up. Stuff like that. It *****.

After I first got the car, I noticed when reversing out of a parking space and going one way (but not the other), I could feel a thunk under my left foot. After 2 trips to the dealer, they decided that feeling and sound was "normal." I ended up paying a non-dealer $50 for their time just to turn a strut mount tower bolt a quarter turn to remedy this.

Anyways, I worry about which I cannot control. I actually think my having a nice car is a bad for me.

Re: Can someone recommend a complete system for me?

Here's a simple plan, will improve most car finishes... (don't get wax or other paint care products on any plastic or rubber trim)

              Wash
              Clay if needed
              NXT Tech Wax

Most cars if give the above process will look pretty good without any more work. If you want to maximize your results then add a dedicated paint cleaning step, (the ScratchX step).

If you really want to make the paint glisten then invest in a G110 and get into machine polishing.

Re: Can someone recommend a complete system for me?

I was just checking out the Deep Crystal Polish as part of the recommended treatment here and it said "specifically formulated for dark cars." Well...mine's pearl white, couldn't be brighter. Should I skip this then?

Also, as far as ScratchX for a paint cleaner, just apply on scratches, or would you guys actually recommend using this on the entire car as a cleaner?
