  • Consumer Line Expiration?

I have bottles of the 3 step Deep Crystal system that are approximately 4 years old from when I purchased them. They've been sitting in my garage where temperatures range from 40° to 100°F. Are there expiration dates for Meguiar's Products? The contents have not hardened. Will the dramatic fluctuations in temperature affect the contents?

Second part of my question. Is there a proper way to store Meguiar's products? I'm refraining from storing them inside the house since I'm slowly starting to procure more and more products.

A quick search came up empty.

    TIA

There is no real expiration date... Generally, the product will either separate and end up with liquid on the top that cant be mixed back in, or will become chunky.

If yours arent like that, you are likely ok.

Our general rule of thumb for shelf life is 3 - 5 years but some of the products can still be good after a decade or more. Plenty of folks around here have some "vintage" products that are still good. Here in SoCal we experience the same temperature variations that you do up north and rarely do we have problems, whether with product in our garage at Meguiar's offices in Irvine or even my own stash in my garage at home - and I have several products that are easily that old.

A hard freeze is generally a very bad thing for most of our products though, but obviously at 40F that's not really an issue. The only time I have personally had a Meguiar's product go "bad" on me was a small bottle of NXT that I kept in my emergency detail kit in my car. After repeated cycles of extreme heat (the inside of a car can easily reach 140F on a hot summer day) the NXT separated and would not mix back properly. Otherwise, even multiple 100F days in a row have not caused problems for products in my garage.

Just to be on the safe side, with older products make sure to give them a real good shaking and if they pour out in the consistency they should and there is no unusual odor, you're good to go.
