  • How to clean bird pooh etching

I've got a rather annoying bird pooh etching (size of a dime) on the hood of my Jet black car. After 2 washes, I'm convinced some other action needs to be taken. From what I've read so far, the process is as follows.

    1. Use Meguiars ScratchX (less than a teaspoon worth)
    2. Apply 8-15 lbs of pressure by hand, slowly rubbing in until paste is semi-transparent.
    3. Allow to dry to haze.
    4. Wipe off with clean cloth.
    5. Repeat up to 3 times.

    Is this correct?

The key is passion and energy... Think of the car almost rocking on the springs as you work it in.

And you can repeat 4 or times if needed....

Alter your step 2 - keep the pressure up but get that pad moving quickly back and forth. Murr1525's visualization of the car rocking along with your arm movement is a good one - passion behind the pad you see.

As bookeem stated, skip step 3. Our polishes and paint cleaners should never be allowed to dry on the paint.

Your overall results will be dependent on how bad the etching is, how hard your paint is, and how good your technique is - we've seen countless people achieve outstanding results with ScratchX.

I had to deal with some poo etching this morning.

A bird decided to relieve itself on my car at a time I didn't see my car for many hours. So when I did, no detailer could save it.

Came home, washed it, and it still looked like a perfect image of poo on my clearcoat, haha.

Took a terry applicator with scratch x, worked it for a minute or two and then it viola, it was gone!

Waxed it afterwards and my touchup was done for the day

Ahhh, actually I have been fooled.

Under some better lighting, it seems the etching was in fact still there. I just got my shipment of #83 and #80 in today, so I figured I would try #80 out.

Used a terry applicator like before and worked it into the area. This time, checking my work carefully with my brinkmann xenon light. Looked to be clear! Checked multiple angles and lighting positions and it seemed to be fully gone. So I rewaxed the area, yet again, and we shall see how it turns out. But I think this time, it IS actually gone.

Crazy how it takes the perfect lighting and angle to see it. Fooled me earlier after my scratch x application!
