  • Question on the Quik Detailer

This last weekend was the first time I have ever used Meguiar's products. I started with the clay, went to a polish and finished with the NTX wax. overall, I was extremely impressed with all the products, and though it took over 5 hours to do my entire truck, it was worth it. I have already received comments on how good it looks.
Anyway, I was reading about the Quik Detailer, and maybe I am missing something. I understand that it is used to maintain the high shine and protection, and if a bird poops on the paint, or after a rain I can use it to remove the water spots, well, wouldn't that scratch the paint using this product and not washing the vehicle first? Say for water spots, I would just mist the stuff on, then buff off with a cloth? What about the surface dirt, I would think that would scratch the surface.
So, am I reading this right, or am I missing something? I just washed the truck tonight and used the Quik Detailer after the truck was dried off, and it looks great.

    Thanks.

Re: Question on the Quik Detailer

Well, there are two things going on:

    1. QD is meant to remove light dust, so for instance some folks QD every day. Much more than that, of even one day in a real dusty place and as you say, you are starting to risk swirls. Of course there is no exact cut off to what light dust is.

    2. But when a bird finds your car, or a real bad hard water drop from a bridge or something, even on a dirty car, that you would want to get off ASAP before it permanently etches into the paint. In that case, it tends to be best to spray the spot and the cloth, and just try and dab, not rub, as much as possible. Hard water spots on an entire car would probably be best/easiest to wash I guess, unless the car was just cleaned.
