  • Polishing Mercedes Emblem & Waxing New Paint Job

    should I wait until the nxt polish is available to wax my mercedes emblem and trim? I bought some Mothers liquid chrome polish, but it never said if it was clear coat safe, so I'm gonna take it back, and I finally found a nxt car wash at wal mart(i've been looking all over for it) I LOVE meguires products! and the nxt wax is very cool, my 98 eclipse looks awesome, but it is hard to put on a white car...I can't wait to do my Mercedes, which is black...(which leads me to my next question, it got keyed at the Mercedes showroom when I bought it) and had to have a new paint job, the guy said wait 30 days before I wax, but i think he is refering to Carnuba waxes, could I use nxt? I'm really excited!

    If they told you wait for 30 day WAIT ! Its not worth the possible effects it could have on the fresh paint. But you can do the rest of the car

    For the emblem since its a new car just use the tech wax. Since its a new car that should be all you need for the emblems.
    If you dont play you CANT win!

        I second what DETLMAN wrote, always follow your painter's recommendation, not what someone writes on a forum. From time to time I see people on other forums telling others it's okay to apply some products on fresh paint, )like in the next day or week), but Painter's are trained by the paint companies of the paint they spray. The paint companies know their product better than some person posting on a forum.

        If they only painted a portion of the car, then wait the entire 30 days. If you want to do something to the paint before the 30 days are up, Meguiar's offers plenty of polishes that are safe for fresh paint.

        8. Which Meguiar's products are safe for use on fresh paint?

        Aftermarket / refinish paint jobs continue to cure for two to three months after being sprayed onto the finish. During this curing time paint manufactures recommend NOT to apply a "wax" or "protectant" to the finish. This is because solvents and other volatile paint components are still evaporating out of the paint.

        However, you can safely use many of Meguiar's washes and polishes during this curing period on fresh paint without fear of causing any damage. Many of Meguiar's polishes are wax and silicone free, and will not seal the surface of the finish. This means the paint can continue to properly cure throughout the recommended curing period.

        Meguiar's fresh paint safe polishes

        * M-03 Machine Glaze
        * M-05 New Car Glaze
        * M-07 Show Car Glaze
        * M-09 Swirl Remover
        * M-80 Speed Glaze
        * M-82 Swirl Free Polish
        * M-81 Hand Polish
        * A-21 Deep Crystal Polish

        As you can see, Meguiar's offers plenty of wax and silicone-free products that are safe for fresh paint.

        Then, after the recommended waiting time, you can apply a protective coating of wax.
